Stepping down from bootleg

my dumb self bought a bogus copy of windows 7 ultimate on ebay. i've used it as long as i could until the nag screens became my mother-in-law.

i have paid security on the computer.

i am considering purchasing windows 7 pro.

will i lose all info when i install pro over ultimate?

It's always best to do a backup just in case, but if you do a custom install onto your current windows partition, it will rename your current windows folder to windows.old. You can retrieve files from windows.old, but you will have to reinstall all of your games & programs. When I did this I do blelieve it left all the rest of my folders as is and only the windows folder got updated.
