This looks like a hardware problem

Using a Visioneer One Touch 8100 just set-up on Win 98, I get just a plain
display with various random coloured spots and streaks when previewing.
There is nothing the feintly resembles what is to be scanned!

Can anyone say if this looks a terminal (electronics) problem is it more
likely a disconnection or poor connection inside the scanner?

All the config and set-up says the scanner is working O.K.
