I decided on a company to buy a system from that will pre-overclock for me. Here's the specs. Comments? Mainly I want to know if there are better suggestions for options that would be better for overclocking and such, but anything else too, of course.

One note to keep in mind: From what I understand, I need two SCSI cards because I have an external RAID array that I need to connect to the system. So, I need two high speed slots for the cards.

1 x Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (2.66 GHz) Quad Core
1 x Coolermaster Aquagate Mini R120 Water Cooling System
1 x Asus P5WDG2 WS Professional Intel 975X
2 x Corsair Dominator XMS DDR2‐1111 2 GB EPP TwinX Pack
2 x Seagate Cheetah 15K.4 146GB 15,000 RPM SAS
1 x Adaptec 44300 Serial Attached SCSI Controller
1 x LSI Logic 21320 Ultra320 SCSI Controller (this is the one for the external)
1 x Mitsumi 7‐in‐1 Black Memory Reader / Floppy Drive
1 x Plextor PX‐760AB Dual Layer DVD ± RW / CD‐RW
1 x BFG Tech GeForce 8800 GTX PCIe 768 MB
1 x Creative Sound Blaster X‐Fi Xtreme Music
1 x Powercolor Theater 550 Pro PCIe TV Tuner
1 x Lian Li V1000S Plus II Silver Full‐Tower
1 x Silverstone ST75F 750W PSU
1 x Noise Reduction and Cooling Kit (Stage 3 ‐ 120mm)

well the quad cores aren't out yet, nor is the 8800GTX, i'd say unless you're v.quick you'll probs be waiting for stock on those components.

which company did you go with?

and last of all, JESUS what is that gonna cost you?!

I shouldn't comment on cost, but I am buying from GamePC. I asked specifically if I would get out of the first batch. So, both of those components will be available by the 15th of this month to them.

*drools* can you tell us an estimate of that?
This must be the best there is out there!
maaaaaaaaaaaaan
Should you consider a 1000w psu? and a ups while you are at it? (I assume you have unlimited budget).

yep i would definiately get a bigger PSU (didn't spot that) that graphics card has two connectors you know!

also you want to leave room in the power requirements for possible future SLI

If I don't plan to go SLI, do you all think I should still go with the 1000? Thanks much for the feedback everyone. I already have two UPS setups I will be using.

i think with that graphics card and cpu (remember the kentisfield is just two conroe dies on a single wafer) and the additonal components you have there it would be worth investing an extra 50 £/$ in the spare power. ESPECIALLY if the system is to be overclocked.

you are getting a warranty right? covering the overclocked components?

glad to be of service! With a 1000w psu you get stability (psu have 80-85% efficiency, so when we say 1000w we are talking about 800w true power)
Also get the 3 year warranty, this system of yours must be above 5000$!!!!

ok thats good, well i wouldnt go three year (will you really have all the same components or even the same PC in 3 years?)

but one or two is definately worth considering

That's what I was thinking too.

all depends on when you'll upgrade next? (difficult i know, especially when you're just shelling out for a blisteringly new system!)

so yeah, one or two years depending on the price difference

happy to help :D

well, let me explain why you should get the 3 year warranty.
Well it's real simple! If you plan to sell this baby after 2 years, then you could sell it under warranty! That must worth something? After 2 years the most dangerous component that can fail is your liquid cooling. imagine frying everything in there cause you was cheap on warranty. Liquid cooling systems are the least reliable.

well that depends who you talk to

you have all the slots you will need on there.

however it has to be said that you'll be running a crossfire chipset which totally rules out sli (although you said you wouldn't be - thought it was worth mentioning).

but yeah you have two fast PCI-e slots available (it wont split them into two 8x slots like some older boards)

i have found my Asus board to be a great overclocker, a great board all round in fact. and the 8 phase power design protects your precious components from that powerhouse of a PSU!

thats a fair comment

its up to you, what are you planning to do with the machine in the future? well i guess you dont know - but in three years will the sale price justify the price of the warranty?

no it doesn't work that way, a 1Kilowatt PSU is supposed to supply 1 Kilowatt to the computer. but because its only lets say 80% efficient, that means it will be pulling 1200 watts from your outlet.

that being said you wont need a 1 Kilowatt PSU. 750 is already way more then you need. if you plan to SLI/X fire with r600 or 8800's then you may want a 1 Kilowatt PSU. otherwise your barely using half the power of a 750 on a full load.

Hmm. Now I am getting conflicting information. :)

ok, then i shall give you hard facts.
this is what you will need for power http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-755-view-geforce-8800-gtx-and-GeForce-8800-gts-power-requirement.html

simple as that, the quad core conroe uses around 30% more power then its dual core brother.

http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp
even has the quad core measurements, and the 8800GTX.

and i stand corrected, using the specs you provided, under normal use a 900 Watt PSU would be good, and for the longevity (buying a PSU that is overpowered so that it doesn't die so soon) a kilowatt is recommended.
