I think New Egg might be ripping me off! Maybe because the economy is slow? Or maybe I just need to be a little more patient. I did a deal with free shipping and I thought, "Hey, what a great service!" But little did I know they werent going to confirm my order for 3 days and when they did confirm it, I have waited ever since. I ordered my setup 2 weeks ago! What gives? Anyone else had this problem? Thanks

Call Newegg's crack customer service staff and ask your questions about your order. They are great over there. That's been my experience. Take a tour of the place too. Great staff.

I agree. Anytime I had an issue with even the littlest thing, it didn't matter if I webchatted or called. They always resolve their issues if they can. They're my favorite place for PC building/upgrade parts.

I don't know Palin. Just try to contact them via WebChat or their dedicated phone support staff.

I have always had great experiences with Newegg, myself. I've been buying there almost exclusively since just after they opened 8 years ago. The only complaint I ever had was one time when they had trouble verifying my credit card info and sold a component out of my shopping cart while I was straightening that out. Cost me an extra week on that build. Other than that, I've never had the slightest hickup there. I'm sure they'll make it right.

I'm not so thrilled with Newegg.

I bought a Sony DVD burner from them, and about a year later, started having problems with it. I went to the Sony web site to download the latest firmware and drivers, and found the drive model not mentioned there. I contacted Sony customer service, and they told me that they would not provide any support for an OEM drive, and that I would have to get drivers and firmware from the OEM. Since Newegg sold the unit, I guessed that Newegg was the OEM. Come to find out however, Newegg does not provide any support for the things that they sell. No software, no firmware, no nothing.

This means that I have a drive that Sony doesn't even admit that they made. I can't get owners manuals, drivers or firmware. And Newegg won't support it either.

Newegg apparently buys closeout lots of stuff that manufacturers bought, and then sold as surplus material. The stuff is essentially OEM gray market.

The worst part is that Newegg doesn't mention this fact when you're placing orders.

Well, support of an OEM product should technically be the responsibility of the reseller and not the manufacturer, so you're right on that point. However, Newegg has never offered support of this kind for their OEM products, other than a 30 day support guarantee, and unfortunately that is something you just have to know about them.

Actually, I don't think any computer company that sells OEM products ever provides driver or firmware support. That's kind of the thing with buying OEM. You're getting it cheaper than retail, with the understanding that if something goes wrong a year down the line, you're on your own.

But to be honest, I'm not quite sure why Sony wouldn't at least provide driver support. It's still their product, OEM or not. They're not responsible for replacing the hardware if it fails, but should at least give you the software you need. But that's Sony for you.
