Hi,
I'm the user of a Dell Axim x50v running Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
Having recently lost the contents of my PDA to a dead battery, I'd like to
be able to do a full backup of the device so that when I run a restore all
my applications and settings are put back in place - even after a hard
reset.
Updating data using Activesync is not an issue - but the time it takes me to
re-install all applications after a hard reset is considerable.
I've seen 3rd party applications that say they will do this but did notice
ActiveSync 3.8.0 has a "backup" function built in. I can't seem to find any
documentation on this feature however. Can anybody shed any light on whether
this function will enable me to do a Full Backup of my PDA or whether I
should be looking to a 3rd party app? If so, any suggestions?

Yes, ActiveSync's backup feature will do a full restore after a hard
reset. Make sure you have Regional Settings set to match the backup's
when you come to restore.

Buy a CF or SD storage card for your Axim X50v. Then go to:
- Start
- Data Backup
It can backup and restore directly from a Storage card the built-in Flash
RAM.

Hi Todd,
That's really helpful - it'll enable me to restore from my SDCard whilst on
the move (i.e. away from my desktop backup). I tried it today and although
the backup was quite slow (10 minutes for a 32MB backup) it will prove most
useful.

This (an x50v) is my 4th pocket pc and I've used sprite backup on the last
3 even though each one had a backup utility included with it. Automatic, set
it and forget it backups. It's one of the first apps I install when I buy
a new pda. www.spritesoftware.com Hth,

sprite backup strongly recommended. try the premium version- has a free
trial period. allows backup and restore from PC/network.
can use it to 'clone' the pocketpc
excellent for automated backup (setup and forget- except deleting older
backup files every few weeks...)

Open Sprite backup on the pocket pc. Tap Options/Backup options. Check manage
old backup files, then options and set your preferences. No need to manually
delete older backup files.
