I just added a second HD to my new Dell XPS 410 system. I connected it to SATA-1. The first HD is a WD 250GB that the Intel Matrix Storage utility identifies as having a "Generation 2" transfer mode. The added disk, a Seagate 7200.10 is identified as having a "Generation 1" transfer mode. The Seagate drive is definitely a SATA 300 drive, so I am trying to figure out how to change this mode. Anybody know?

Hey B,
Like fuller said, there are jumper settings on the rear of the hdd that allow for either a 1.5 gB/sec and a 3 gB/sec. If the jumper settings are not clearly marked, you will have to go to the web site of the hdd and look at the specs and diagrams for it.
Hope this helps

Make sure you don't have any jumpers on the hard drive. Normally, they use jumpers so that SATA 2 drives can be backwards campatable with SATA 1.

Hope that helps.

I just looked up Seagate's web page and found you are right: the jumper is on for SATA 1.5 GB compatibility. Looks like I need only remove it. Thanks to all!!
