I've installed my CPU, but ran into some install problems with the stock fan. I clicked in one post no problem, but the others were difficult to get in. The fan itself is secure, but im worried i pushed too hard on the chip when i pushed the other posts in. Is it possible to apply too much pressure onto the chip? How snug should the fan be? Thanks for any help

I haven't built a core2 system yet (not because I don't want to but my wallet says no) but every other system I've built the heatsink is very tight. It has to be to get good conductivity. I thought I was going to break my first motherboard before it clicked in place. I imagine you could apply too much pressure when something breaks.

thanks for your reply. just got a little nervous being that it's an expensive chip

you are more likely to damage mobo than chip.

They are very fiddly to get on and do require some effort, the truth will be in temps, idle should be mid 30's using coretemp or TAT, and load could be high 40's low 50's.

Have read many 'too hot' posts that have been rectified by paying attention to stock HSF fitting.
