I've set up an old p3 system with a 200gb hd and freeNAS on a 10gb drive. It works great, from the laptop. wireless or direct, the laptop can access it no probs, its XP pro.
My prob is my main kit. my main system doesn't have XP Pro but Home, and it is poor. Through alot of searching, it seams that XPhome just misses some of those little NAS protocalls that seem less omitted as taken out. I dont have £60 - £90 to spend on XP Pro, but no matter what i try, i fail. I can still access the web terminal for admin, but i cant get in the share. I have to use the laptop to drag stuff from one to the other when i need to. It is very irritating. Thanks in advance for any help!

I would definetly upgrade to Pro just because of its networking features....

i have used freenas before across the following platforms.

XP PRO
XP Home
Win2k Pro

when you say it can't connect do you mean when you try to browse to the NAS servers netbios name or to it's ip address.

The netbios i find is flaky, but the ip always works unless some anal firewall is blocking it. I would try to see if i could get to it by using it's IP address, if that doesn't work try checking your firewall settings.
