Hello,

My CPU fan just seems way too loud, it's a AMD X2 4200 stock fan. Any suggestions on what to replace it with? It's just really annoying so I don't leave my computer on when I'm not using the computer. I don't OC my system, just need something quieter that's all. I was looking into the Artic Cooling Alpine 64 or Freezer 64 Pro, however I think the pro might just be overkill for what I need.

Any input would be great.

Thanks.

The Freezer 64 Pro is an excellent design at a low price (I use the Intel version, the Freezer 7 Pro). "Overcapacity" is good, because that means you can run the fan part at lower rpm's, which lowers the noise level.

You JUST missed a great sale for it. It was going for $15.99 yesterday at NewEgg. Price is back up to $29.99 now.

Very good cooler. Comparable to the Zalman CNPS9500 is terms of performance and noise.

I appreciate the help, I have no problem shelling out 30 bucks, though 15 is a better deal :)

Now the Freezer 64 pro looks like it is mounted different, I have a full tower, is the fan going to be facing down and blowing air up?

Scythe Mine or Ninja, well there under generic model names at the moment. The mini will take a 120mmx25mm if you want to use a even lower speed fan, just make sure you have space for them as the mini is the same height at the ninja.

But I would look for a better price then newegg, Jab-tech has the Ninja for $41.

Also Thermalright also makes very good heatsinks that work well with low speed fan's there just allot harder to track down for a good price. SI-120 is also a great heatsink.

Over kill on cooling is not a bad thing you can use slower fans that make much less noise that way.

The Freezer 64 Pro is vertical, meaning it will stand like a tower. The fan blows across the fins, not on them.

Now that Scythe there looks like a KILLER deal. I just need to find some reviews of it.

Amazing review.

I noticed one thing: in the OC'ed 1.7V CPU section, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro TIED the Tuniq Tower 120 in terms of cooling for the best cooler. At 10dB louder, though...
