Greets,

Ok, here’s the deal. I ended up getting the pent D 805 Smithfield because of the oc’n abilities. Got some great ddr2 ram, and 2 Gforce 7600gs 512 Meg pcie vid cards. I would like to hear some suggestions on motherboards. Needs to be sli, and would like to have the best of the overclocking options. So I figured this would be the place to turn to. Thanx ahead.

My advice would be to either get a p965 or 945 based board that supports C2D as well, so you could upgrade later. Gigabyte and Asus p965 boards have been known to do well, OC wise.

Or you could save a little, and get an NF4 based board, like the abit Ni8-SLI. I picked it up 6 months ago for less than 80$ and so far the only OC limit that I ran into is the actual heat that the d805 generates, the board was booting for me at 3.9Ghz (190FSB) with a 1.5Vcore - but any kind of load in windows would simply overwhelm my cooler. I'm currently running it at 3.4Ghz (170FSB), synchronously with ram, simply because I dont enjoy listening to all my case fans at full speed :)
If cooling/noise is not an issue to you, I can tell you that the Ni8 OCs very well with a d805. Probably many other NF4-based boards as well.

Technically you are not even overclocking your board. FSB200 was the standard before Conroe arrived.

Well, considering that he has a d805 and plans to overclock from the stock 533(133*4) FSB that the chip runs at, running it at 800FSB is already a very nice OC, technically. But I agree in the sense that any chipset design to run at 800fsb should do fine with a 533FSB cpu that you plan to OC.

I like my Ni8 SLi board very much. Looks very nice too, has a sort of red "underglow" effect from having LED's on the backside. Looks cool in my polished aluminum case interior.

I am stable at 4.0ghz on this board and find the layout and driver setup very easy to work with.

Semi hard to find though, a few on eBay right now and if you can find one, I certainly recommend it.

Greets,

Been looking at the AW9D-MAX for like 220.00. I did notice that it calls for an 8 pin aux power plug. I checked the compatibles at abit and they recommend several types of supplies that are just outrageous price wise. Still looking for suggestions or if I decide to run with this board a source for a PS that doesn’t cost as much as the board itself :).

You can also get a P5ND2 Sli motherboard for about $80. I currently have it stable at 3.92 GHZ. Its a great motherboard and if you plan to OC, then get an additional northbridge cooler, like a fanless thermalright cooler on Newegg.
Oh and you have to flash to the latest bios, or the board will only recognize "One" of the chips cores .. . . . .

Greets,

Anyone have any luck with a Foxconn NF4SLI7AA-8KRS2 Socket T mobo? I saw this suggested on some site a few days ago. I checked out the (foxconn)site and it says that the minimum that the board runs at was 800 and that the d805 isn’t compatible because of the 533 front. So i'm going to asume that they had the d805 clocked at 800. Now for the life of me I can't find that damn site.
