UAW/GM Strike over

They go on strike for couple days.. and last night the news spent 10 minutes reporting all the companies that were laying off workers at suppliers for GM. Then they interviewed the people and they all supported the UAW. You were laid off because these people went on strike. I'd be pissed off. I don't really get it.

Take the fricking health care and lose the job banks. The job bank is a joke at that - They can't lay you off, they stick you in a room watching TV until a manager calls you up to do work for them. Now, in the mean time give them a broom, right? Nope. Those hours get charged to the manager who takes that worker, so they sit in a room, getting paid their high dollar amount to watch TV for days or weeks. That needs to go.

Anyhow, I think in my area alone over 1,000 jobs were laid off for a couple weeks until the supply market picks back up for GM.

I think we buy glass at 5 cents a square foot and tend to turn around and sell it for anywhere from $5 to $60+ per square foot, depending on what work goes into it.

High profit stuff.. which is why we don't do residential windows. Though, we supply all the glass to Pella windows.

We just have a huge mark up on it because we get it so cheap while all the other companies pay more for the glass, get smaller profits, and still charge more than we do.

There is a reason this company became the #1 leader in north America.

But the UAW needs to go.. but they accepted the health care for retirees which is good. Just lose the job bank and life will be good. The strike helped GM in the short and long run as they have extra cash now. Stupid on the Union's end to do what they just did.. could have really hurt GM if it lasted longer.
