I bet you could. I wouldn't be surprised if the first wave of the cards goes normal price and I have seen a thousand times on eBay where people pay more than an item costs on a simple "Froogle" search.

Have a nice day.

Reply to Qeldroma

how am i destroying our economy? I dont force anyone to buy them, and isnt this how our economy is suppose to work. Supply and demand and i will have part of the supply.

Reply to heartofalion

In answer to the question. I'm quite sure you could make profit off someone.

As to the morality of taking advantage of your fellow man/woman, well thats up to the individual and their conscience I suppose.

I can see the temptation for a quick buck tho.

What he means is, that you destroy HIS economy since he obviously gets ripped off quite often on ebay.

Well, after all the crap that went down on Ebay when the 360 came out I can see why they want to put some rules to it. Rules can be a pain but they are certainly a necessary evil at times.

Actually, what you're doing might be a crime, as it is the same as buying tickets for games and concerts and selling them for higher prices on the streets (at least, here it is a crime...). Don't see what the difference exists to this and what you intend on doing.

Reply to sviola

if it was a crime ebay wouldnt allow it. I will start the price at 1 penny if people bid higher than retail thats not my fault.

Well, you can buy tickets through ebay as well...So, by your logic, it might not be a crime to buy tickets for a concert and sell them for a higher price?

Reply to sviola

I'm not an expert, but usually on concert/sports tickets, it specifically states on the ticket that it's not for resale. AFAIK, there's no such disclaimer on video cards and hardware.

Capitalism doesn't involve inserting middle men, chief. That's called hedging and it is widely regarded as unethical. But why would you know that? I'd wager the extent of your work life centers around the creed: "Would you like fries with that?"

Reply to DrEvil

Thanks, but no i consider myself well educated for a high school senior, and really any money i were to make off the ps3 would go towards college. And for the record i work at a retail store and as an on site tech for a spinal doctors office.......but i still dont understand how its unethical, if it was something that was a necessity i would understand, But people will be choosing to pay these prices. I will be starting my auction out at 0.01$ so they will be jacking the price up not me. Sooooo by what your saying, do you find all auctions unethical? Where the seller makes a profit??

Reply to heartofalion

Don't worry about it, your fine, the other people with less than 100 posts that are dissing you are just idiots and clearly they are jealous that you thought of something that they didn't...ignore them.

Put it up on ebay and hopefully you will make a killing, the demand is pretty high so grab the opportunity while you can.

Best of luck

Demand is high? You can get one from most etailers at or above MSRP. Demand is not that high and prices will only drop. I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped by as much as $100 between now and Christmas.

The desire for these cards is much higher than demand.

Listen, I think you failed to realize what a said...

demand is pretty high

meaning: its selling more than other graphics cards. I didnt say the demand is EXTREMELY high....

Reply to 3lfk1ng

It's not even high considering the available stock. Supply is just to high and will only get better. Beside after the initial push they're not going to be moving many $600 cards when most people will be happy with a $300 that will play most games at 60+ FPS at 17" LCD res.

There is a very small segment that will really benefit from this card and rest just want it because.

Recommending someone to buy something to turn it around for a profit that it isn't likely to make anything is just bad advice. I personally don't agree with what he's trying to do but I wouldn't mislead him into wasting his money. While I'm not suggest you're trying to mislead him your advice is bad, unless the supply runs out, which doesn't seem likely.

Reply to bydesign

yea i didnt do it....i dont have the money to risk right now....i watched them on newegg though and none of them sold out except for the bfg one which it took 2 days for it to sell it so i know i would have lost money had i done it.

I normally don't bother getting involved in these stupid flame threads, but I felt compelled to say that your comment was one of the most stupid things that I have heard in a long time. Did you ever take an economics class in your life? EBAY itself is nothing more than a "middle man" profiting off of a transaction between 2 people and last I checked most publicly traded companies (like EBAY) are representative of Capitalism.

Additionally, the definition of hedging is "Taking a position in a futures market opposite to a position held in the cash market to minimize the risk of financial loss from an adverse price change; or a purchase or sale of futures as a temporary substitute for a cash transaction that will occur later. One can hedge either a long cash market position (e.g., one owns the cash commodity) or a short cash market position (e.g., one plans on buying the cash commodity in the future)." This has NOTHING to do with what he is thinking of doing!

Finally, every store/site that buys products from a manufacturer/distributor and resells them for a profit are acting as "middlemen". Still capitalistic last I checked. So if you disagree with what he is trying to do (which as far as I am concerned is pure capitalism (even though I think it would have been a bad financial move)) please do not spout ignorant rhetoric when you have no idea what you are speaking about.

Personally Im disgusted at the people who are selling them (PS3) on ebay... Those who want one for themselves or thier children either pay a cr@p load or miss out while these bottom feeders prey on those with no brains....
But....
Those people who are stupid enough to part with $15,100 on an item worth $600... well... they are idiots....
But....
There was something else... but i forget...

Just as well you didnt try and sell them... as you said, they werent in too short a supply, my local store, as good as it is, ran out quick, but I wouldnt pay any more than normal price just to get one now... (idiots)

I wish the OP had bought one or 10, and tried to sell it for a profit only to sell at a loss pluss comission. I love it when speculative profiteers get saoked.

I agree with you about basically a fool and their money, but I'm not worried about the people paying the $1.500 for the unit, they are far from 'average folk', it's those who were planning on them for the MSRP for their kids and instead these turds artificially increased the price buy buying what limited ones there are to then re-sell them (thus artificially inflating demand while artificially reducing the supply, by adding to one and taking away from the other).

Of course these aren't staples and thus there isn't a law against speculation and profiteering in this, however when it comes to shortage is those items the law is involved and profiteers are charged and if the situation were extreme enough could be forced to give their goods over to the state. But that's usually only in states of emergency, which this isn't. However I use that extreme to illustrate that while not illegal, the action of profiteers is immoral.

Personally I don't think anyone will be permanently harmed by the lack of a PS3 under the Xmas tree, but it doesn't surprise me that this type of person either shot someone or was shot by someone else today.

Plz no flaming.

I can't believe I missed this thread before. To the original idea, this wouldn't really work seeing as it's not the coveted "PS3" and supply for the 8800GTX has been very good so far.

Reply to Heyyou27

Yeah I know. That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, considering the availability of them. I haven't heard of a single person not being able to find one. It's almost like buying a toaster from target, and then trying to sell it for a profit on craigslist. Not quite the same, but close enough.

I can't believe what people are paying for PS3's on Ebay, and don't get me started on Tickle Me Elmo's. $200 for a $39 toy created for the sole purpose of driving us parents crazy!
