Unable to install Firmware Updates

Forum Cell Phones & Smartphones : Windows Mobile Unable to install Firmware Updates

I have several firmware and driver updates from HP that are designed for my
HP 5555, and I need to apply.

When I run them, the ActiveSync list of programs appears, but nothing is
listed for the update I am attempting to install. If I click OK, nothing
happens, and the install terminates.

If I run the same update again, I am asked if I want to remove the program
and all it's components. I click OK, nothing happens, and the install
terminates.

What's going on here?

Can you try uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync?

The applications shouldn't have disappeared. However, since it's at
this point, you may want to try a complete uninstall (see
http://www.cewindows.net/wce/activesync3.1remove.htm) then reinstall
and see if that helps.

Is ActiveSync installed on the C: drive in the default location, or on
a different drive?

On the C: drive, in the default directory.

I've hard-reset the device, uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync. All to
no avail.

I can install programs just fine, but when I try an update from HP--nothing.

Hrmmm... only updates from HP? The update should extract a .cab file -
you can use ActiveSync Explore to move this .cab file to the device,
then go into Explorer on the device and tap on the .cab file to
install it.

No luck there, either. There were two .cab files, I copied (and tapped) them
both.

Error message states that the .cab is not a valid Windows CE .cab install
file.

I've just downloaded these updates from HP.com. I'm positive they are
designed for my device (unless HP is wrong...).

That message means that you either tried to copy over the Installer's
CAB file (most Pocket PC install cab files have numbers or the
processor name in them, ie "arm" or "10003" ), or your download is
somehow corrupted or not for your device.

Yes, I know. There are only two .cab files in the download. Neither works.

These updates came right from HP's 5500 series tech support page(s).

Can you try re-downloading them?

You think maybe it's ActiveSync 3.8?
