Need help with ATi All-In-Wonder X1900

I bought an ATI X1900 All-In-Wonder card, and I get a busy signal on tech support. I'm running Windows XP Pro X64, and the catalyst software installs (you can download X64 drivers online as well) but the text seems like it's squeezed in and it's not entirely legible. It seems like they enabled X64 drivers for the graphics part of the card, but nothing else. My computer seems to run a bit slower on this card than on my 7800GT card, although the picture does seem a tad sharper. I'd really love to get the tv tuner part of the card working, but the software doesn't seem to be included, or it doesn't give me the option on the CD. Any help is appreciated. :-)

Not sure what is wrong with your drivers, but I've had this card for awhile, and I have not found any type of MMC/TV Tuner support on XP64. This is the main reason why I have not moved to XP64 yet.

i am 99% sure if you just install the 32 bit MCE on the 64 bit OS it should work fine but i dunno... im getting 64bit OS in a few days and i wiull be able to tell you for sure

Never tried that, but I doubt the TV tuner would work, since it is very driver sensitive on 32 Bit Windows, let alone 64 bit versions. I can't see one working for the others.

You'll have to let us know how that works out.

I fixed the Catalyst software, it works better now. ATI also released a new version of it and new drivers, however I got it to work right prior to that. A couple of notes for anyone reading this that has similar issues...

I called ATI, they said they were waiting to see how Vista x64 sold before making the Multimedia software (tv tuner part) for the card. Also, as of current Catalyst you can't use the overclock feature with 64bit windows. It simply doesn't show up. Same with the multimedia center option in the catalyst install menu. Just isn't there. That means that the AIW x1900 is a great VIDEO card but that you CANNOT OC it using the software, nor can you USE THE TUNER part of the card without 3rd party software. As of now those are freakin' tough to find...I'm still looking. BTW, I just realized today that Windows Media Player 11 came out...I gotta tell you...it's still got a few bugs. For one, it's very difficult to hide porn with. The average user isn't going to be able to figure out how to get this damn thing to stop scanning his drives and listing his hidden files...I gotta tell you MS, sometimes you guys just don't think. LOL

I wonder though, anyone know where I can find a LEGAL good copy of a DVD decoder for WMP 11? Also, I don't know about compatibility with x64...but I don't think it makes a difference since it's not using drivers...

Not my Porn!! Good thing my wife doesn't use my PC  J/K

I've used WMP 11 in Vista and I do not like it at all. Plus I hate that, at least in Vista, part of the "setup process" is asking you to subscribe to third-party services. At least let me get the damn thing running before you start with that crap.

As for a DVD decoder, I don't know about one that will work with WMP 11, but try either Kazaa Lite Codec pack (no relation to the File Sharing software, and no spyware), or VLC media player. I find that using the two of those, I can play just about anything, though admittedly, I haven't tried DVD decoding on it.

Yeah, I noticed that little sales pitch during install too. I'm getting sick of the cost of entertainment. I can't even stand to watch tv anymore. Between all the morons from Britney Spears to Paris Hilton, and the cRap attack...I just can't handle commercials. At least most commercials HAVE gotten better in the last decade. I love women, but when I'm sitting at home with my gf it's difficult to have it in my face all the time. Violence is ok when it's with drama, but these new cartoons are just stupid and overly abundant with the killing and sex. At some point you'd think someone producing these shows or someone watching them would just stop to ask, wait...how is this funny or interesting? It isn't. Click.

K, done with my rant...for now...

I just want to be able to watch DivX and DVD's. I think I've tried the Nero7 trial decoder, NVidia's decoder, and Power DVD trial maybe too. I can't really tell a difference.

More on WMP 11, I love the black glassy look that's from Vista they used on it. However, I'm getting sick of finding menus...Windows Live Messenger is the same way...almost impossible to get to the options menu. In order to see any menus at all you have to locate the right button by scrolling over it for a second. Even noticing the little button took me time. Why can't they have the entire menu laid out for me in the nice black finish? If they want to hide it they should have a large menu button to bring it up. Why not have it auto-collapse like they do with the start menu button? I've noticed too that M$ no longer includes the little right click "what's this?" feature anymore it seems on any of their software. You know the worst thing about WMP 11? It's constantly using resources, even when it's not running. It has an auto-finder for media files that's constantly running in the background...searching... F that! Why can't I schedule it to seek at night with the task scheduler Stupid MS. STUPID!!!

Personally, I think a lot of the Cartoons I watch on Cartoon Networks Adult Swim at night are more intelligent than a lot of Prime-time shows anymore. For Instance: DayBreak - Its the Movie Groundhog Day, except its not funny. Its a total Rip.

They got rid of the Menu's, because as part of Windows Vista, WMP11 already knows exactly what you want, so why waste time and space by giving you choices??

If you haven't tried it yet, Vista is the same way about everything.

As for the Whats this button, I think its because that was part of Windows Help, which is no longer supported in Windows Vista (Another genius move), and since those two products were designed for Vista, they don't support it either.
November 17, 2006 7:19:15 AM

I couldn't tell if that was sarcasm or if you actually think Vista's great. LOL Either way it left me hungry for a Hergie Burber from Herbie Burger. Or was that the other way around? Anyway, I hate it. If I want MCE I'll buy MCE.

What I do want is accessible functionality in a clean package. I do want real live tech support, accessible through chat. They need to be TRAINED. If my version of windows is verified why can't they get someone to sit at a desk and type 100wpm to 5 people at a time?

What I don't want is MS thinking they know what I want, because they don't.

I don't want software running background apps. I don't want my entire collection of music copied to a folder I can't get rid of. I don't want ads shoved in my face when I buy a $300 OS so that MS can make yet another billion bucks a year...

I'll clarify, I think Vista sucks so far.

Aero and DX10 are nice, but you can get similar features for XP now, and DX10 will eventually be cracked and ported to either XP or Wine.

I don't know if you've used it, but ever after disabling the worst of the "helpful background processes" and without using Aero, it uses about 450 MB of RAM.

I happen to think MS's whole philosophy with this OS sucks. It basically ignores the real computer users in favor of the masses that don't want to learn anything.
November 17, 2006 9:33:10 AM

Haha, I just posted in another thread about how consumers are unaware of what they buy. Hundreds of thousands of people run out and buy anti-virus software and RAM to speed up their computer, when all they need is to get educated. Tech companies are ripping us off all the time. It's the California way! People from Cali just don't get why I trash their state. It's not all of them...it's the way businesses conduct themselves, particularly in that region that I'm bashing. They prey on lack of knowledge. While it's arguably "legal" and "ok" in true principle it's unethical and immoral. Just because you CAN take a child's virginity doesn't mean you should. Just because you CAN sell people something they don't need doesn't mean you should. At what point does wealth become more important than ethics? It's a tough question that I'm inclined to bring to awareness. Now a lot of Californians are going to think I'm being unfair...

But look at these industries and tell me I'm not right:

Entertainment - including Television, movies, and the online world. (I won't mention porn, although much of it seems to have a lot of palm trees..., I'm sure FL is guilty as well)

More specifically though, sold on tv products, health products such as acne meds, weight loss supplements, and excercise equipment. Almost ALL of these sold on tv bottles are not approved by the FDA.

And then we have...financial and technology scams. So many companies have learned how to make stuff cheaply and to think in spans of decades or years. Companies like Walmart sell us junk stuff knowing full well that in a few years time we'll be back to buy another because the first one gave out after awhile. It's like a mechanic who fixes your car with the lowest grade part he can...little did you know it was so low quality on the inside. BTW, Walmart is owned by THREE billion dollar people who all reside in California. :-) Walmart imports over 90% of their products from China. We as consumers have a responsibility to watch out for ourselves.

Between the government and large corporations...we are being swindled every day...yet we're satisfied because we're still the richest nation around. Our country is somehow founded on false beliefs of superiority. Yet we can't understand why the world dislikes us. They TOLERATE us because we have such excellent diplomats who sell them ideas and then rob them so they can't fight back. We rob them by selling them guns and getting them to fight with their neighbors. We rob them by convincing them our way is best. It's how white people have always done, and when we can't convince them we kill them. This attitude dates back centuries...ever hear of Constantine? We use religion when it suits us, the Red Cross and donations when it's in our government's best interests...and we the people profit, all the while not realizing we could have it all in a much more ethical way.

If you look at companies like Ben and Jerry's or Mattel...and you can SEE it CAN be done. The world CAN operate ethically. Thanks for letting me rant. :-P

At least until China takes over superiority...
