I'm looking into purchasing a new screen and am not certain what to buy. I'd like to avoid a CRT screen, simply for the sake of less irradiation , but a majority of my personal PC time is spent gaming and rumor has it that LCD's don't refresh fast enough.
Could you please offer your opinions on this? If you feel that LCD's are good enough for gaming, then please suggest a few 17 inch models without speakers.
Appreciate any and all info.

What major concerns are response time when dealing with games. many LCD's have 25ms response time, which is fine, and most don't notice ghosting. If I were you, I'd wait a few months, cause some new technologies are coming out that are VERY promising. BTW, CRT's are fine terms of radiation w/ all teh protective shields and what not. That definetly isn't a concern.
Will these new technologies be in the sub $1,000 range? I would prefer to buy an LCD simply to save space and reduce the amount of heat generated by a CRT, however, $500> is my price range.
