FEAR is one of our favourite benchmarks. And we thought it'd give a pair of G80, Geforce 8800 GTX cards in SLI a workout.

We got a 75 per cent performance increase over a single Geforce 8800 GTX card.

Yes, we are talking about G80, Geforce 8800 GTX times two.

Are you ready for some big numbers?

3Dmark03 scores 49,400.

For comparison, a 7950 GX2 dual core graphic card scores 29,800 in the same test. A single X1950XTX scores 19,500.

In 3Dmark06, the 8800 GTX SLI reaches almost 11,000. The 7950GX2 achieves around 10,000. In Fear, the dual G80 cards can score up to 48 frames faster than a single card - a massive performance increase - and some other games will benefit from it too.

Stay tuned for more numbers we just wanted to give you a hint. Oh yes, the single Geforce 8800 GTX scores 9,800 in 3Dmark, on the fastest AMD CPU to date. ยต

God dont believe the stupid Inquier havent you seen that thread going around that completely bashes them for making rash unsupported statements. Wait till the 8800GTX comes out and some one rich enough buys two then runs 3dmark 05-06....

That'll be me if I can actually find two to buy during the rush tomorrow... I'll let you all know when I get them.

1,000 extra points for dual 8800 GTXs ?!?!?! That's garbage. Drop over $1000 easy for an extra 1000 points? That's a bad joke. Who would bother?? Talk about a waste........a single 8800 would destroy ALL of today's games, why flush money down the toilet on SLI that doesn't perform????

3dMark performance isn't everything. Just because 3Dmark06 only gains an extra 1k doesn't mean a second card is useless. While these specs are from Inquirer who I'll take comments with a grain of salt, if the SLI is anything like current sli configuration, maybe two of these can be used to run Crysis high graphics on high rez? As for now however, two of these are a waste until more games become available

DX 10 compatability would be one reason ( I mean over saving $$ by buying the 7950).

Actually some of the reason that the 3dMark06 wasn't that much better in sli was because its cpu-bound. They don't say what cpu they used but I'm hoping that my phase-change cooled and OC'd x6800 wont be so limited :-)

Anyway, most reviewers still benchmark at 1024x768 or something equally lame. Even a single 6800 can be cpu-bound at that kind of res.

I think they say top AMD...so FX-62.

CPU bottleneck....thats all I"m gonna say.

G80 SLI get 11k in 06?? ha, what a joke.

Yeah but to be fair thats not the fault of the GPUs.

Its the fact that the rest of the system isn't fast enough. Actually that just validates that my GPU purchase (hopefully) tomorrow will last a good while even if I update the rest of my PC again.

I realize its not the fault of the GPU's....hense why I stated "CPU bottleneck"

However check the ORB. Most setups for 7900's /X1900 multi GPU situations usually go over 10k - and I bet none of them have an FX62. So that score needless to say, its much lower than it should be.

Nice. But others are correct in that you only need one 8800 to kick a** in games. Two,although nice, simply is not feasable for most.Anyways, just thought you'd like to know.Goodluck.

sorry to start (or further) the anti-Inquirer hostilities. I just thought you guys would like to see it.

My main interest in all this is the potential of using GPUs as co-processors.

Reply to starbucksaddict

Then say so man.Give a link and briefly explain why it's interesting to you.The fact that they may be used as co-processors is interesting.Later.
