I have a Canon 3200F flatbed scanner which was running fine until
recently. I am constantly trialling new products and I think something
may be conflicting.
What happens is - when I attempt to use the front buttons on the
scanner I get an error message (see log file, sorry lots to digest) as
follows
I can use the scanner from within any of my apps, Word, Photoshop
Elements etc, but the moment I use a button it (Canoscan 4.5) refuses
to open.
I've loaded the latest drivers from the Canon website - still no good.
When I check Device Manager in Control Panel all seems OK, but if I
right click on Properties in Control Panel >Scanners & Cameras,(Canon
says this is where you configure buttons) it says there are no
properties to view for this item??
I've tried uninstalling any programs which may be affecting and have
run Spybot, AdAware, HiJack This and Error Nuker.
I'm running Pentium 3 with Win XP Pro 512Mb RAM, 80Gb + 20Gb HDD
Canon website next to useless and have rung Canon support who said
must be a Microsoft issue?
Can anyone suggest a remedy or course of action for this problem, it's
literally driving me around the bend.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Many USB problems can be corrected by uninstalling the device in control
panel/device manager and unplugging the USB cord. Reboot the computer and
then plug the USB device back in and turn it on. Often this will reconfigure
the various software drivers for the device correctly. If you recently
installed WinXP SP2 or an upgrade thereto your USB port itself may be
corrupted (Microsoft well knows this happens). Again just uninstall the USB
ports under control panel/device manager and reboot: this is Microsoft's
specific recommendation for correcting that problem.

Often to install USB and other dynamic devices, the driver package
must be installed *before* the device is connected to the system, so
that the device can be detected correctly, when it is later connected.
Then when the device is connected, it can be correctly detected, and
the device driver can be configured into the system.
