Is it just me, or is the 11" length of the 8800 (1.5" longer than the 1950) utterly ridiculous? Just built a beaut system in an Antec P180 case, which I thought was a nice, roomy choice.

Now I'm raaaaather agitated with the revelation that should I choose to upgrade my x1900xt (which wouldn't be happening soon anyway), the damn thing won't fit!

Just wondering how many of you find yourself in this position too :x Any chance that the R600 or whateveritscalled will be any smaller?

dude...chillax...you know that the next batch of 8800's will be shorter...same happend to the 7950's...they started out really long, and they eventually got shorter.

I just fell sorry for any one with a BTX case or even some Mid tower case because they might not fit at all! Gonna spend 650$ on a nice GFX card that wont even fit...better break out the Chainsaw

Man I hope your right....... a 1.5" reduction is pretty optimistic though, methinks :(

80% can fit...... are you sure?

What kind of cases are y'all flying then? And where the f*ck are you keeping these monsters? Mine barely fits under an industrial-size desk!

Took some measurements. My Aurora should just about be able to do it, if not...nothing a reversed table saw can't handle real quick

I might have to put my hard drives in a 3.5 inch bay and take out my hard drive box for the card to fit. Either that or I will get an R600 and hopefully that'll be a half inch shorter.

That's what I would have to do. I am pretty sure you can fit an 8800 in almost any mid/full tower if you aren't afraid of a dremel or some ingenuity.

Unless you go to LAN Parties, I say you go full tower always! The more air flow the less overheating problems you will have!!

I have the Thermaltke Armor... no way to say it, it's huge! And I like it that way! I have a good 4-5 inch clearance to the fron of the drive bays for the Graphics Cards! I have a large Zalman Ultra Quiet CNPS9700 CPU Cooler, which takes a lot of room and I still have plenty of room in the case.

Besides the case just looks bad azz!!!

Splendid
I voted no, but would have said "Maybe" if that option was listed. I have a mid tower case that will be very close if it fits, and it might require me to remove a hard drive bay, after moving the drives somewhere else.

I'm waiting to buy until the R600 comes out and there are some benchmarks to compare. Maybe the R600 will be both faster and shorter. Only time, benchmarks, and real news will tell.

It will not fit in my case (Cooler Master Cavalier 3 mid-tower) as my x1900GT is 1.5" shorter than the 8800GTX is. The back of the 1900 is just far enough ahead of the HDD cage that I can fit the rear-mounted PCIe power adapter into it.

Whatever happened to 7" long cards by the way? Did they go the way of the dodo except on really low-power units like the 6200TC/7300TC or x300/x1300? Those fit very nicely in my case. I'd just as soon have a 7" long card that's 2 slots thick than a 10" long one that's a single slot.

I know that, but it's just a function of surface area, right? You could do a sandwich deal like the 7950GX2 except put the core and the RAM facing out on opposite sides of the boards leaving the two bottoms of the boards facing each other. It would not be that long nor hard to connect the RAM to the core in that manner, either as they are probably closer in 3D space as they would be on a flat board.

gotta love the generic no name cases where theres no hdd bay. instead theres the rack where you can fit like 10 hdds ... so if you have 1 hdd put it at the bottom of your case and your ginormous vidcard can stick into the hdd area.

I have the Kandalf too....and trust me...I won't every be able to complain that there isnt enough room. Just wait till I get my new rig....I'll post some screenies for everyone.

11 drive bays anyone??? 8O .I took out the hard drive cage while I'm modding it, the hard drave cage takes up 3 slots. (*shameless plug incoming* check the link in the sig).

I know its a bad pic because it looks "warm" but, oh well, at least you have an idea the size of this monstrosity (here ar some measurements 21.5" tall x 23.5" long x 8.5" wide)

Lucky if you got a removable HDD cage....then use a converter to put them into 5.25 slots and open up the whole bottom of the case.......at least you get improved airflow for the 8800

If no removable HDD.....well then.......screwed.
