Core Solo vs Celeron M 4xx series

The celeron M has no power saving features. Whereas the core solo does. A core solo would be similar to a pentium M in performance, maybe a bit better.

You would need to verify if you could upgrade. A lot of notebooks have hacked a bios that wont boot with a different type of processor.
If the socket is the same, celerons come in both 478 and 479 varieties, and the chipset supports a C2D, then it wouldn't matter.
I would check out the Core Duo laptops as they seem to be on nominally more expensive than celerons and Core Solos. Then you'll have a dual core until you can get your C2D.
