why is it that the BFG 8800GTX card seems to be the most expensive at £493 where you can get a XFX 8800GTX for £439. are BFG cards better than XFX or are there no differences between the distributors like EVGA, BFG, XFX and so on?

No single reason. Just is that way.

Card itself isn't really different, besides clock speeds.

BFG might have higher clock speeds, but I don't think it does.

All the first batch of card are the exact same except for the sticker on the heat sink!

Look at the bundle, if it contains a game you like and that might spare you $$ then it might be worth it. Some card might include more cables too, only thing you should look at. Oh and warranty, I think BFG and eVga have lifetime, compared to ~3 years for XFX(not sure about this...)

They are all the same design and makeup. Nvidia did not want various cards on the day of launch. That does not say that there will be overclocked version and whatnot but not for the first week for sure.

And to put some insight into the "slap a sticker on" comment... yes, that happens.

:)
