I'm posting here because my main problem is with choosing a motherboard for the system I'm building. I also need help on choosing the ram to go with it. All of the other parts are pretty much chosen unless anyone knows of anything with better performance for the price.

I'm wanting performance and overclocking. While I'm relatively new at overclocking myself, I will have help and I'm good at computers and a quick study. This will be my 5th build so I'm not a novice on all fronts just the actual overclocking part.

The biggest headache is choosing the mobo and ram. On current technology the p5b deluxe is my current favorite because it's loaded with extras that I like, but I'm not sure about its overclocking potential. I would absolutely love to get the new striker 680i board, but its not out and evidently will be insanely priced not to mention being new mostly unproven technology.

I would like to have the option to go sli in the future which is why I'm still thinking about waiting for the striker. On the other hand if this p5b deluxe is solid enough with good overclocking I can pick it up now and ebay it late in january or february and go for the striker then. What do the pros around here think, your help and suggestions would be invaluable to me.

One last thing is the ram, should I go with this kingston 8500 stuff or stick to corsair xms2. Honestly ram still boggles me and any help is appreciated here. If I were to go with the kingston 8500 would it work on both of these mobos? Oh and in case you were wondering why I was even considering the kingston 8500 it's because on asus's description of the p5b deluxe it says they were designed with each other in mind.

I forgot to also ask about the P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP based on the nforce 590 chipset. It also has all the features I want , but how does it do in overclocking and how does is compare to the others?

Lots of info but you missed the important. How far do you want to OC and whats your budget? (Ill assume 2GB)

Hmm, I could've sworn I put my budget in there, but I must've deleted it on an edit. Budget is firmly capped at $2500. As far as overclocking goes I'm going to try to keep myself at a middle of the road for at least a month or 2 just for longevity, but I'm horrible at restraint and will probably take it to the limit on the 3rd day that I've had it. So basically I would love the highest overclocking potential possible. Oh and yeah I guess I didn't mention that I was looking at the 2 gig kits for ram.

Now for the unfortunate part, I was worried ram would keep going up in price and down in availability so I jumped the gun and ordered the Corsair 2gb Dominator DD2 1066 with timing of 5-5-5-15.

So I'm hoping it'll work with what I get. Right now I'm heavily leaning towards the striker board.

As a mother board I would suggest the P5N32-e most of the feature of the stiker, no heat pipe jungle and a more decent price!

As far as ram is concerned I dont think you will need anything above DDRII-800(espically with a 6700), I got my eye on DDRII-800 with a CL4 wich should do anything you like, one of the best deal right now IMO is the Geil Ultra, the XMS2 6400C4 from corsair is really good and the price is decent if you buy before the 16h, 40$ Mail in rebate....

I apologize for my inexperience, but could you clarify this a little, is there anything wrong with the 6700 as an OC'er? Would I be able to get a faster overclock with the ddrII-800 over the ddrII-1066 dominator? All other things being equal is there some other cpu or ram that would yield a faster machine while not going over current budget? I would love the x6800, but it's just completely out of my reach.

You have already ordered the RAM so theres no point arguing about that and lets just get busy with what we have.
Wait for a direct comparison between the P5N32-E and the Striker. Also wait for RD600.
The E6700 comes from the same binning as the X6800, so youre getting roughly the same quality.
You like big and expensive cases and I like the Antec Nine hundred and P180B.
A extremely important part of OCing is your cooling. What have you tought? Do you want water cooling or yould rather air?

Finally something I'm not a complete idiot in and can answer confidently. For at least a week or 2 it will be all stock air cooling. But I've got what I consider to be a very good water cooling rig. I would use it from the get go but the water blocks I need aren't available for the parts quite yet and I also want to see how fast everything is on its own before upping the ante.

My rig consists of: thermochill pa120.3, laing d5 pump, 1/2" tubing. The blocks I'll get will be whatever comes out for the 8800gtx and probably the upcoming new storm (G7 i think) for the cpu.

Also if you think the ram will hinder performance any then I have no qualms paying the 15% restocking fee and getting what I need.

Oh and in case you're wondering why an amateur overclocker has a watercooling rig like this, it's because my last machine was well overclocked but my friend did most of the work and wasn't a patient teacher.

Are you sure about that I've read that the E6700 and E6600 are more or less the same based on the OC results this seem to be true both maxing out around 3.8 to 4GHz. The 6800's go far beyond that up to 4.6GHz
