Well,
For about $500 US you can get a 8800GTS. Which would be worth spending few more dollars.

Besides that, X1950XTX would be my choice.

i agree with prozac, you can get a pny 8800gts for 450. But from what i hear pny is kind of :?

PNY is alright. They usually charge more than other companies do for their products. But now, their DX10 cards are currently the cheapest.

Well, right now, since the cards just came out, they're basically same, so going with the cheapest card, in this case PNY, won't really make a difference.

Hereis the new nV 8800 series on OCUK.

Cheapest one is 370 quid, though.

I'd hold out for one of those or just chuck more money at it - it would be a shame to miss out on next gen graphics for the sake of a few pounds.

Yeah, it's a shame if spending that much to not get the 8800GTS. Unless the X1950XTX has started to drop in price over there (it has not here), then either go all out on the 8800GTS or save a bundle and buy the X1950XT 256MB.

Here in the USA, the 8800GTS is $450-500, the X1900XTX is $400, and the X1950XT 256MB is $260. Given those prices, the X1950XTX is just not a good buy. It would have to be way under $350 for the extra clock speeds, 512MB ram, and that nice cooler to make me think it's worth buying. otherwise, I'd save a bundle for the X1950XT or spend more for the GTS.

SO
£370 for the cheapest 8800GTS ($707)
£305 for the cheapest X1950XTX ($583)
£188 for the cheapest X1950XT 256MB ($359)
£135 for the cheapest X1950 pro ($258)

Again, based on those I'd go X1950XT or X1950 pro. The others are way over what he wanted to spend anyway. Those are lousy prices. 8O I thought that was a good site? Can we really buy a 8800GTX for less than what they pay for a GTS?

If he's going to get the X1950XTX, save some cash and get the X1950XT and still receive almost all of the performance.

Thanks for all your advice, ill go for x1950xt as the 8800gts is a bit out of my price range :(
