Ads getting bad

The splash screen re-direct opening ad is annoying. Worse than that so many ad's have to load on article pages, it took me about two minutes with several attempts to get to the article i wanted - it kept hanging waiting for an ad server.

I like this site a lot for it's content but it's getting so junked up, the user experience is getting not worth it. I know ad's are necessary, but it's out of hand.

  1. Adding 127.0.0.1 www.ad.tomshardware.com in your hosts file alleviates the problem.
  2. Just use adblock plus; I wouldn't be watching this site without it anymore.
  3. I agree, the redirect splash screen is a little inconvenient and the ads take forever to load (and I saw a scientology one, boy did that make me angry)

Btw. what is a hosts file?

On Windows, the hosts file is in %windows%\system32\drivers\etc. It's purpose is explained in the file.

Thanks for the advice! I've never had to use an ad blocker before but I can't wait five minutes for every page in a twenty page article. :ouch:
