9800xt vs x700pro

ASUS 9800XT
ATI X700pro

Both agp, both 256mb I believe. Which should I use? I currently have a choice between the two. No considerations other than pure performance (laugh all you want, I know I probably will).

Does anyone know of any comparison reviews or some place where I would be able to see the difference in benchmarks?

The 9800XT was a higher clocked version of the 9800 Pro with 256mbs of RAM & will outperform the X700 in many benchmarks because of its 256 bit memory bus vs the X700's 128 bit ... to put this in perspective, so higher resolutions 9800Xt is better in my opinion, but if with normal setting and lower res I think there is no big diffrence between the cards

I would go for the 9800XT between the two you mentioned.
May I ask why you only have those two cards to pick from?
I saw a pretty good deal on a X850XT at newegg the other day (less than $150).

The 9800XT is second hand for free, and I'm currently using the X700 pro. I haven't spent a single cent

Well, as long as its free, you could try out the 9800XT and see which one is better. I would expect the 9800XT to be better though.

I'd say the 9800.. i push my 9800 pro using two 20.1" monitors both at 1600x1200, and playing oblivion and other high-end games at max res with decent settings on...This agp card is old but still performs amazing for its age

Both have 8 pixel pipes.

My guess is that the 9800 XT would be faster but I'd run some benchmarks in your games with the X700, swap in the 9800, run the same ones, and compare if you get the chance.

AFAIK the x700 was pci-e-only. Could be wrong, though.

My understanding was that the X700 was about on par with the 9800 Pro 128mb, with the 9800 pro pulling ahead ever so slightly at higher resolutions and quality settings. How much better is a 9800xt compared to a 9800 pro?

For most benchies I've seen, the x700pro was SLIGHTLY behind a 9800pro, while the x700XT was SLIGHTLY better then the 9800pro. Seeing as a 9800XT is faster then a 9800pro, I would expect a x700xt and a 9800xt to be close in performance. Seeing as in this case we are talking about a 9800XT vs a x700pro, the 9800xt should be the faster card. (unless either the benchies were wrong, or my memory is bad.)
