From what's being said, I'd judge the problem is that somehow, Tom's is abusing the RSS feeds to send out advertisements, not just legitimate content updates. Quite reasonably, people appear to be agitated by this; that is not what RSS was made for. I mean, ads are for placement on the site, and it's supposed to be the content that brings people to expose themselves to the advertising. Sending advertisements through RSS feeds really would constitute a form of spam.
I've asked about this in an effort to help out--I was shown how the feeds have looked, supposedly, for a long time. There is one banner in the whole thing, and it isn't new. Hardly a reason to get worked up, imo.
