The animated Hellgate: London ad, along with the Intel snowmen and cheetahs, cause the scrolling forum list to freeze until the animation plays out. Does anyone else have this problem, or is this just peculiar to my crummy Windows 2000 Pro laptop (IE6.0)?

Altazi
Don't know. Don't care. Fcuk off and learn to read, numbnuts.
Wait 'till you see what this does...
..*FART!*..
dear god, we need to setup some sort of concentration camp to deal with these people.
yeah man its caused by incorrect BBphp code that your browser cant handle because of weak loopholes that were built into it. but the good news man is that there is a fix for it and i have the link somewhere, ill have to find it.
ok basically what you have to do is, go to this link and then click on the "Auto Update my browser" and it should solve your problem, hope this fixes it.
https://www.microsoft.com/browsers/updater/fix2433.asp
To phukface, thank you for your helpful response. It is appreciated.
To the unhelpful responders. . .It was just a simple question. I imagine there was a time when you might not have known the answer. How nice it must be to know everything. If you are so omniscient (that means "all-knowing" ), why don't you get your pathetic asses off of a backwater forum and go solve the world's problems.
To RobD especially: learn to spell. I could do that when I was four years old. I rarely meet people like you, since I move in educated, professional circles. When I do meet people like you, I appreciate your presence in the world. It's always nice to be reminded that there are some much further down on the left side of the Gaussian distribution curve that represents IQ. Signed, a far-right sider.
Altazi.
I should add: This is a company-supplied laptop. The IT department is responsible for the software maintenance on the machine. That's just the way it is.
I don't have any trouble with the animations on any of my other computers.
Hey far-right sider. You're too smart to read the stickies, eh? If that's just the way it is, and it doesn't happen on any other of your rigs, what was the purpose of your post? Far-right indeed.
Also his "spelling" is to get around blocked words in the forum. God damn you're stupid. When you're in the educated circles, do you get a nice tip for handing them a towel in the restroom?
Time to review your left/right position. Fcukwad. Oops, my spelling is awful too.
Altazi, open you eyes and have a look around. This isn't a technical forum, it's called the Other for a damned good reason, twatbasket. If just one of you stupid fooking n00bs would bastard well read ANY sodding thread before you post, then you'd avoid abuse. When you sign in here, you come to the forum root. That should have given you a hint, you blind git.
Read the stickies you tosspot. Then fcuk off
How clever of you to misspell words deemed unsuitable for civilized conversation so as to defeat the obviously complex text filter that would remove such drivel. There are other, better ways to accomplish such a thing, but I fear that they would be beyond your meager technical skills. Perhaps someday, you can improve your command of the English language to include words beyond four letters in length, and doubtlessly learned in elementary school. Using such words merely indicates your low level of intelligence, social evolution, and dare I say, imagination.
At least I can thank God that the chances of you passing on your genes for sub-normal intelligence, anti-social behavior, and unjustifed self-absorbed attitudes, since you are unlikely interest any human females to the extent of achieving mating privileges. Even if you managed to get some poor girl drunk enough to accept your pathetic excuse for manhood, you wouldn't know what to do with it anyway.
What a relief that there are no pismires like you in professional circles. Have fun with your "intellectual" pursuits - I use the term very loosely.
I regard your ilk as the equivalent of accidentally stepping in dog excrement. I am sure that I am not alone in that assessment.
Altazi
Next time, get your guide dog to post, it might actually find the right place.
Whoa dude! Watch out! He's better than us...
Hey smart person... Did you BOTHER to read the stickies after it was pointed out to you? I think not. Had you done so, you would have seen the error of your ways, and perhaps you could have apologized, or at least left graciously.
Let me give you a hint. We are a tight-knit group of people down here who come from all over the place, geographically, socially, and intellectually. But guess what. That's what makes it fun. We know each other's strengths and weaknesses. When you are at your Mensa parties, I can't see them being very much fun. I can see it now...
"Zinc is by far the best element! I also like Plutonium. It's just fun to say. How's your Plutonium? Good thanks!" [+10 OQ]
Why did we feel the need to insult you? It's in the stickies.
Why did you feel the need to insult us? I'm guessing you are covering up some internal angst. I'll wager that you just realized that you are gay, and you aren't happy about it. But as I'm not a psychiatrist, I'm not going to make any judgments on you...
Other than the fact that you are a self-righteous bastard that I feel no urge to talk to anymore. You can change our perceptions, or you can go away. Personally, I don't care either way.
| altazi wrote : Using such words merely indicates your low level of intelligence, social evolution, and dare I say, imagination.

Any reference to God undermines your claim to intelligence
altazi wrote : that the chances of you passing on your genes for sub-normal intelligence,
Thankyou for pointing out my lack of intelligence! All these years I've been labouring under the misconception that I had above average intelligence. I'd best return my three University of Cambridge degrees and inform them of the clerical error. Or maybe it's you that is wrong? Just a thought...
altazi wrote : Even if you managed to get some poor girl drunk enough to accept your pathetic excuse for manhood, you wouldn't know what to do with it anyway.
Oooh, insinuating that he has small genitalia? Gosh, that's really mature and clever. Pray tell why your post is acceptable but RobD's wasn't. Is it, perhaps, that you are a huge fcuking hypocrite. It's no wonder you had to post here - no doubt your condescending, arrogant ars*hole attitude has so p*ssed off your IT colleagues that they refuse to help you. Good for them. Or do you not dare let them look at the machine for fear that they'll discover all the donkey pr0n on the harddisk. Subscriber to www.GoatsWithBoats.com are you?
altazi wrote : What a relief that there are no pismires like you in professional circles.
If you actually worked in professional circles, you would know that most of them are pismires. I should know; I work all day with accountants, lawyers and surveyors.
altazi wrote : Have fun with your "intellectual" pursuits - I use the term very loosely.
No looser than your mum.
altazi wrote : I regard your ilk as the equivalent of accidentally stepping in dog excrement.
That's a fcuking disgraceful attitude to have. Take your bigotted elitist attitude out of here and go home and anally violate your servants, or whatever it is that you do for fun.
Edit for random post truncation.
Amazing, someone who actually knows and uses the word pismire - and in the correct context too. Just unfortunate that you got off to the wrong start down here.
This is the Other. There is a stickied thread that spells out the rule down here. This rule is, and I quote, "No Computer Talk - Just Go Away". There are two other threads, also stickied, that reinforce this ruling.
There are several other sections in this same forum, clearly displayed in the root, that deal with website/forum feedback. This section deals with the people who want to chat to each other about everything and anything EXCEPT computer hardware, software and networking.
The reason I'm being so nice about this, especially in comparison to most others, is due to me being the forum's resident 'nice' guy. The passing resemblance to Jesus is entirely accidental, I assure you.
Oh, yeah, about pismires in professional circles, you get filth of all stripes wherever you go.
Incidentally, I consider 99.9% of humanity in general as being lower than dog excrement and I also consider this vile, disgusting filth in dire need of sudden extinction.
At least down here in the Other everyone's honest and up front, not all smiles while evaluating where to stick the knives in.
The point of this is: if you don't like people, stay away from them. What is the point of rehashing the same old arguments over and over again ad nauseam? There isn't one. We've been over all of this so often it's just not funny anymore.
At least you don't jumble letters with numbers in a vain attempt at being 1337 (lit. "deliberately and childishly sub-moronic" ), in addition to which you have an excellent grasp of spelling and grammar. You get points for that.
Where you lose points is in assuming that we in the Other give a toss about what anyone who hasn't bothered familiarising themselves with the rule thinks or says.
So, yeah, I'm probably going to catch hell for being so polite and helpful about this, but we've been getting far more than our fair share of newcomers who don't know the rule down here lately and the irritation is starting to reach uncontrollable levels.
Just do us a favour and post in the appropriate places, and by 'appropriate' I don't mean where people get stuffed into llama suits, beaten with baked hams, farted to a very abrupt and noisome end, and other general viciousness.
Have a good one!
Forgot to add - such close-mindedness wouldn't be out of place in a gathering of people who take religion seriously.
As for those who actually do take God seriously, these people consider religion as being an utter load of bollocks. Unfortunately religion manages to get to so many people before belief does...
Discuss.
Thank you for your cogent and civil reply, Mugz.
For what it's worth, I read the stickies, but yet I saw a number of posts that were indeed questions related to computers, networking, etc. I checked a couple, and didn't see any flaming responses. I had looked at all of the other forum titles, and wasn't certain whether or not my subject would fit. So, I (mistakenly) selected the "other" forum. Maybe there should be a forum for "Unknown/Unclassified Problems and Issues". If so, I would have posted there.
If I hadn't been immediately jumped on by uncivil thugs, I might have apologized, sincerely. You and phukface were at least civil and helpful in your conversation. There's a lot to be said for civility. All it would have taken is a simple response like: "This is posted in the wrong forum. Your post should go in xxx." All of this unpleasantness could have been avoided.
I, for one, never jump nastily on someone at the first posting. Everyone can make mistakes; we all can make life easier by trying to get along. If someone posts a question in good faith, even if it's loaded with grammatical errors, misspellings, and poor sentence structure, I do my best to answer the question. I would never jump on one whose language skills are not equal to my own - who knows, English might not be the poster's first language. My rule - "cut everyone some slack". At most, I might ask for clarification on a point that was ambiguous. If, perchance, you see any of my responses in various places on this website, you will see that this is the case.
Also, I am not a religious nut. As a design engineer, I have difficulty that the enormous complexity of our universe occurred randomly - no matter how much time you allow to elapse. The tend is towards entropy, not order. However, I do not subscribe to the belief of the classic paternal "God" in his white robes, sitting on his throne, etc. I am taking a "wait-and-see" attitude.
I am a strong supporter of critical thinking, and despise religions or movements that tell you what to think. I enjoy civil debates on such a subject. If someone wants to believe something with which I disagree, that's fine with me - as long as he doesn't push it in my face. Live and let live, I say. We are all on this rock for only a short while, and it would be a better world if we spent more energy on being nice to one another.
Regards,
Altazi

Bullsh*t. What about your reply to RobD? Insinuating that he is uneducated wasn't nasty, was it?

altazi wrote : As a design engineer, I have difficulty that the enormous complexity of our universe occurred randomly - no matter how much time you allow to elapse.
As a geologist, I commonly come across this misconception regarding evolution. The complexity of living things isn't random. I recommend you read "Climbing Mount Improbable" by Richard Dawkins - it's a very approachable layperson's text on the subject.
altazi wrote : I am a strong supporter of critical thinking, and despise religions or movements that tell you what to think.
That's surprising, given that you have already proved that you are an arrogant, elitist, humourless, sanctimonuous twat. I'd have thought you'd be well suited to religion.
altazi wrote : We are all on this rock for only a short while,
You shorter than most, with any luck.

More stickies, perhaps?
llama_man,
In case you hadn't noticed, RobD was decidedly uncivil - immediately. If he had posted a civil response (as I suggested), I would have apologized and left. My point is that I never attack first. End of (that) story.
Your comments, being uncivil, juvenile, and antagonistic, aren't worth the disk space they are using. Stick to your rocks - they seem well-suited to your social demeanor.
Altazi
hmm, after phukface posted i thought for a moment this was someone from before my time especially as his join date suggests he came here before the new look.
if he has been here for a while, then why did he choose the other. Altazi, are you just trolling or are you actually being serious, please say the former as the latter would be just too hard to believe.
apparently he didnt click the link,
considering i only have cameras behind about 40% of the people in the other, i couldnt really tell you.
where, where!!!!!
You know I could swear I smell the use of insultmonger in some of these posts...
Hi phukface,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to get back to you earlier. When I went to the web address you indicated, I received the following message:
"We’re sorry, but we were unable to service your request. You may wish to choose from the links below for information about Microsoft products and services."
You might want to update your link. Thanks for the effort, anyway.

so what have you learned?
if you say anything other than "we all float down here" you would be wrong.

Hmmm.... so it does go to a microsoft site. +5 something-to-do-with-linking to PF.
Err... Getting back to the legit techie questions, the regulars down here can get away with threading questions like that, but newcomers can't. It's just one of those things.
Anyway. I've got to get back to finding out exactly why that bloody structural support thingy in plant four collapsed again after those damned contractors swore that the thing was fixed! [/rough day at work and it's only 10H12...]
You may have read the stickies here & ignored them, or you could've actually researched the the forum for the correct place to post.... [shrug]

back to the op, it does the same thing on my **** work pc (single core p4, fx5200, making 3d CAD drawings sucks big time with this ****) and my home gaming pc (quad, 8800).

They should ban animated ads.

Hello RCPilot,
I read the stickies, but saw a number of posts that appeared to contradict the "rules". I also checked into the forum you suggested as a preferred alternate. Here is what I saw:
TG Forumz - Other Discussions
Avatar question
How do I get more stars
How to delete my log-in
Need to speak with admin or moderator
Chinese man electrocuted by computer
This doesn't look like the right place for my post, either.
I tried to find the correct forum in which to post. Clearly, my post didn't belong in the "Hardware" section, along with CPU & Components, Overclocking, Motherboards & Memory, Homebuilt Systems, Storage, or Graphics & Displays. Nor did I see a good fit under "Networking" section, with TomsNetworking, General Networking, or Wireless Networking.
Moving down to "Mobile", I saw Mobile Computing, Laptops & Notebooks, PDA, Mobility Networks, Mobility Brands, Mobility Technology, and General. While my problem was occurring on a laptop, I didn't believe it was specifically a laptop problem, and the discussions in that forum were of a different nature. So, no fit there.
Next, I looked at "Games and Entertainment". Let's see. . . Games General, Entertainment, and Home Cinema Equipment. I was pretty sure that my post didn't belong in any of these.
It was the same for the "Consumer Electronics" section. Tom's Guide, Systems, Computer Peripherals, Home Theatre, Digital Camera, Audion, and Other Consumer Electronics. Nope, no good fits there, either.
Then I saw the "Software" section, and thought this looked promising. Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000/NT, Windows 95/98/ME. . . While my problem might in some distant way be OS-related, my post didn't really seem to fit here, either.
At this point, I was left with "Community". Deals? Not a fit. Opinions and Experiences? Remote possibility, but not the right categories, so no fit. Other? Maybe. . . Bestofmedia's site feedback? Maybe, but what if my problem is something unique to this crummy laptop I am using. Tom's Hardware Forum related. Maybe. . .
So, it came down to "Other: Other" and "Tom's Hardware Forum related: Bug Reports & Resolution" or "TG Forumz: Other Discussions". I looked at the posts in ALL of the sites, and still didn't see what I regarded as a perfect fit.
When I looked at the stickies and saw the "No computer talk. . . just go away", this seemed to contradict some of the posts I saw in the forum. There was a good degree of general silliness, but there were also a number of technical posts. Based on this, I took a shot with "Other: Other". The results of that apparently mistaken decision are history.
It was suggested that it's OK for the long-time "members" of the Other to engage in technical talk, but no one else is permitted to do so. How then is a newcomer (not a n00b) supposed to decrypt the contradictory rules of this place? Why is it acceptable to jump on, ridicule, curse at, and generally revile some poor poster who, despite his best efforts, posts something in this place?
I have received a private message explaining the Other". The sender's name will be withheld to protect him from mindless vituperation. He said:
"The other is an area where people act retarded, completely avoid computer talk or anything remotely intelligent. The majority of the people who even hang out in that section don't know jack about computers in the first place.
They just sit around bashing 'noobs' when they come in. Its the only forum where I've seen this kind of stuff happen. Unfortunately, as THG has changed with the times and gone more mainstream attractiing more people and daily 'noob invaders' into the other... the Other isn't adapting and accepting of this. Its the boys' club. They're all self obsessed with something that they created in their mind.
Anyhow, in any case you did actually post in the correct forum for an unclassified problem. Those who dwell there don't allow for it though, thus the immature bashing and driving away of intelligent people who would otherwise be worthwhile assets to this website and forum. "
From what I have seen, I largely agree with his assessment. To those few who dealt civilly, and provided cogent discussion, I offer my sincere thanks (and apologies, if necessary). To those others, who behaved unkindly, I offer my sympathy.
Regards,
Altazi
Thank you. Now please dismount your mother, actually read the damned stickes and sod the hell off.
Did you try Forum Issues?
PS, I am not self obsessed!!!!!
WHO TOLD YOU THAT!!!!?!?!?!
/me looks around fervently.....
Was it YOU Mugz??!?!?!?!?!
Why so nasty, WingDing? I am not currently discussing a technical issue, and as such, am not violating your seemingly arbitrary "rules".
I merely explained that I made an honest attempt at locating the correct place to post my question. If you can honestly and civilly fault my decision string (shown in my previous post), using logic equivalent to (or better than) mine, I will listen. If you are just going to be unpleasant, then I shall merely regard you as irrelevant, and ignore what you have to say - except for any minor amusement value it might have.
Suggestion: petition the folks at Tom's Hardware to create a forum that is clearly intended for unclassified technical issues. I can't imagine any newcomer intentionally subjecting himself to the antagonistic drivel he would receive by posting something that offends your skewed sensitivities. That way, you and your playmates can sit and stew in your private, little sandbox without being disturbed by the well-intentioned "noobs" that you and your ilk so despise. Maybe you can even get them to password-protect the access, so only your little club can get in. Saves everyone trouble, all the way around.
Altazi
oh just stfu.
Strangestranger, don't you like my suggestion? It was offered in good faith. Then you wouldn't have all of the annoying "noobs" popping in here.
Oh wait. . . then you would run out of a supply of unspecting targets for the vile dejecta that you spew. . . Whatever would you do for entertainment then?
screw a llama and throw **** at each other like we always do.
Altazi, you seem rather uptight. Uptight folk never see that they are. It's like when someone says they have a great sense of humor, it's the first sign they don't. Relax. Are there serious debates/discussions here? Yes. Has a thread ever stayed on topic? No.
The dude who sent you the PM is surely in other threads discussing why AMD/Intel sucks and why Nvidia/ATI suck. If you look around you'll see some posters here do give good advice/answers in other threads. Some people here know more about computers than the folk "upstairs."
You have two choices. You can either stop trying to be logical and stick around the basement here and let off some steam, or you can piss off.
Your call.
P.S. If you stick around, Jef is retarded and Riser is gay, so be respectful.
Quote : we all can make life easier by trying to get along.
Take the fcuking flowers out of your greasy long hair and fcuk off, dirty hippie.
***joins Llama in queue for handing back degree***
It's not that I am uptight. I just don't care for someone jumping down my throat when I don't see that I did anything wrong. When someone assumed that I didn't make a reasonable effort to figure out where I should make my post, I got **** flung at me. If the responses had been at least funny, that would have been fine. What I got just seemed nasty. If you attack me, don't expect me to be nice in return.
No worries about being respectful, on my part, as long as we understand that respect is earned. With me, everyone gets default respect to start, but if they act like an a$$ for no reason, the respect variable goes negative fast. Mugz earned my respect immediately. Phukface indirectly earned my respect for an amusing jest (as if I didn't see where his link really pointed to). You're doing just fine. I have no respect for other members, and I also assume it doesn't matter in the least to them. No worries on my part.
I see an awful lot of references to llamas. Would an alpaca work in lieu of a llama? They are a bit smaller, but have a finer coat. . . It seems llogical. . .

Hey Pike, we found another one. Sucker.
Heh heh...he said "vituperation"...
Look pal, nothing has happened to you that hasn't happened to every one of us at one time or another.
'Cept maybe for Wingy. But if you behave yourself we'll let you pork his wife!
Ah, what a romantic image the term "porking" brings to mind. . .
Logic & common sense are not your strong suits IMO!!!! I'll bet your a educator with your condescending attitude!!!!
I guess your too dense to 1. read the stickies & comprehend what they say. 2. think that I give a care about your lack of forum skills. 3. think your so right even after your told what time of day it is. 4. think your ranting on a soap box means squat.
Take your BS somewhere where someone might give a sh-t..... Your wasting band width trying to justify that your not an idiot, when everyone already knows you are a idiot!!!!!
