I am a WinXP Pro user (with SP2 installed). Is there any risk if I try to
change the HDD (C:) serial number? Will WinXP continue working properly?. Can
I undo the HDD serial change? How can I make sure that all will continue
working? Any other suggestions? Regards

If you do succeed in changing the hard drive's Volume ID, there's a
good chance that WinXP will "think" it has been reinstalled, and require
activation. What are you hoping to accomplish?

You cannot change the Hard Disk Serial Number because it's put by the
manufacturer inside the firmware on the hard disk.

However you could change the Volume Serial Number made by the O/S when
creating a volume.

Note that the volume serial number is one of the components used in
activation of Windows XP. So if you change this you have modified one of
the hardware components monitored by WPA. See
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.php#format for additional information.

Wrong ! You can change the volume ID Number quite easily.
Search google for a small program called Volumeid. or email me and I will
send it to you. Works fine on Windowx XP. Also for reinstalling system to
another hard drive cuts down on activation score.
