I can see that the 7600GT has been recommended on here and i can see that the X850XT and the 7600GT are pretty similar. I was just wondering if anyone's had an experience with them and would recommend them.

Many cards are said to be good but when people get them out into the retail they have a load of bugs etc. Never had a nvidia but think i may go for one this time to compliment my upgrade (thinking e6300 c2d although i realise i may need to spend another £60 on DDR2 ram, eeek!)

Thanks in advance for advice, cheers

You can buy a more expensive card to compliment a Core 2 Duo. (remmember to buy a CNPS9700 and DDR2-667 RAM to overclock it)

X850XT is better, hands down. More pipes, better and faster memory.. only problem is u cant overclock, but u dont really need to.

I would reccomand the X1950 Pro for 200$ or better yet the X1900XT 256MB for 250$, and not either of these 2 cards wich cost 150$.

you have one of the greatest gfx cards ever made, what you need to upgrade for

it depends on your budget tbh although the only thing the 7600 has going for it is sm3 although don't expect great performance in titles that use it.

IMO if you can get it cheap enough go for the x850 and wait to see what ATI's offering is.

even better, if you can wait 3 months or so, just hold onto your 9700. that way you can use the money you were going to spend on your gfx card for a nice shiny new one.

IMO do not waste money on old tech. that may sound odd but nvidia have already released one so it ain't like they are months off. if you are going to buy old tech don't waste you money on 7900's or 1900's

9700 pro FTW!!!!!

Yes i'd heard that the 9700 Pro is pretty rare and pretty damn good. But surely i'd be better off with a PCI-E card.

doh, forgot about that. ye, i am a bit nostalgic about the 9700 as it lasted me about 3 years or so. in fact it is still going albeit in the hands of my parents where my old machine ended up. it has been put out to pasture now and al it does it web surf poor thing.

still, i would save up for when ATI releases the r600 and nvidia releases the g80 refresh. no point spending big bucks on "old" tech. from what you tell us you don't play anything too taxing but that could change.
