I built a system for video editing using the ASUS KFN5-D SLI motherboard.

I want to have one system drive and five drives in a RAID.

I installed windows on my system drive. then I went in to the BIOS and enabled the RAID controller. Then I enabled the RAID function on each of the drives that I wanted in the RAID. I then went into the RAID controller and set up a RAID5. the problem is that it will no longer detects the system drive. So I unplugged the system drive from the NVIDEA controlled SATA ports and plug it in to one of the Sil3132 SATA controlled ports. I made sure that the Sil3132 SATA controlled ports were set to SATA2 mode. It still would not detect the system drive. Any advice on how to get this to work?

I am using a 120GB WD as my system drive, and 5x 250GB WD drives for my RAID

I also tried enabling the RAID controller on the system drive and setting it as a JBOD and setting it to boot off of that. But it would get to the starting windows screen and then reboot.

Most likely, what you need to do, is with the controller in RAID mode, set the system disk to JBOD and the remaining disks into the desired RAID-5, then install Windows to the system drive (inclusive of using the F6 to install drivers during setup and the use of F5 to set "ACPI Multiprocessor" during setup).

On another note (sorry for thread-jacking), what coolers did you use for your system? I've got a pair of 2216's and am looking to purchase this board, but don't want to have to use the high-rpm 1U/2U server coolers which are the primary ones listed to work with this board.... Thx.

AngelDeath82,

Thanks, that is what I ended up doing. I also had to slipstream a new windows disk because the drivers would not install right from a floppy.

I have been editing on it for about two weeks now, it is wonderful!!!

For coolers I used the THERMALTAKE A1827, which is a sever cooler I think. I am not very good with hardware stuff. I just know enough to be dangerous.

Sorry that I can not be more help to you. :(
