Hi, I plan to buy an E6600 and a Asus P5B pretty soon. I am kinda new to overclocking, made a couple of tests with my old prescot 2.8e and really feel like pushing my new CPU pretty far while maintaining a 1:1 ratio with the Ram FSB. What I would like to know is what kind of ram should I buy.

1. Should I get crucial 2gb kit ddr667, raise my cpu fsb until I get pass the 1:1 ratio and if so, is it possible to upgrade the Ram fsb to match the cpu?

2. Should I get some ddr800(still cant choose the brand) while ignoring the 1:1ratio with FSBs cuz I doubt I am gonna get my cpu that far with a Scythe Infinity Fan and is it gonna lower the overall performances to have a higher Ram FSB?

P.S. Is that true that DDR2 can only have minimum timings of 4-4-4-7?

First of all, i hope you aren't going to get the P5B(vanilla). Get the P5B-E or P5B-Deluxe for overclocking. Second, read Wusy's O/Cing guide, from top to bottom.

1. Most decent DDR2-667 should reach ~800MHz, which is all you'll need at 1:1 with an E6600(9x400=3.6GHz potentially).

2. Getting DDR2-800 will pretty much gaurantee that your RAM won't limit your overclocking, offering the potential of a minimum 3.6GHz@1:1(Doesn't mean your CPU can reach that). The Scythe Infinity is a very good HS/F and should get you into the 3.4-3.6GHz range.

The tightest timings for DDR2 are generally 3-3-3- 8. GL :)

wow thanks alot, I think I'll go for ddr800 just in case and BTW any idea of what would be a good 2gb ddr800 brand for overclocking? I've heard that G.skill can reach 1000mhz easily without any use of cooling.
