Anyone battled with quitting? I have a month to do this. I've tried everything from cold turkey to the patch. Suggestions please...topping myself is not an option. :(

Why do you have only a month?

The only way you can quit is through sheer will power. It's not pleasant. You basically have to force yourself not to light one up.

I did it through willpower and a desire not to give more money than I was paying for smokes to the bastard quit companies. They're fcuking worse than the tobacco mob. First week is the hardest, but the key is always to remain positive about it. If you do crack and have a sly one, don't beat yourself up and use it as an excuse to go "oh well" and start smoking again.

The best is when you walk into a bar or pub and stand next to someone who's just had a smoke. You think "Fcuk, did I used to smell like that?" Amazing how much tobacco niffs on clothes.

Smoking is big, clever and makes you look cool in front of your friends.

And it provides essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients [/good parent]

Reply to WingDing

It also keeps down taxes for non-smokers like myself, so please carry on.

Chunt Funter, what the hell is s3x? A clever way of saying sex?

Maybe you should change your name to RTard Junior.

@ Whoever the hell started this thread - I just gave up quitting. I was good for about 18 months.

Basically, I said "I can't afford to smoke anymore!" It worked to get me to quit, then I stayed off for a long while. My wife never gave it up, which made it harder on me, but I shoulder the whole of the blame for starting up again.

Good afternoon Chunt Funter.

Fantastic, now all they need to do is block your posting and will be well.

Willpower.

Every month you quit adds a bit to your life, so do not look at it as a failure if you start up again, think of it as a temporary repreive.

The physical addiction will make you whine worse than a menstural DMV worker the first two days, but after that it is all in your head. Find out what your hooks are. Start niticing things like hoy you point your fingers at someone, what you do with your hands when wingy is not around, and the like.

Sometimes it is as simple as avoiding the things that you link with it, although some might be harder to avoid than others.

GL!

I was trying to avoid that association. That and "s3x".

Tom, the only thing I can ask is that is it beer by itself, or only when you are out and being social? Sometimes it is not the substance, but the situation (I have seen people get "clean" tanked just fine in some situations, but absolutely needing a smoke at a party).

Screw it. Start smoking pipes or cigars. At least throat cancer is more easily operable than lung. It ain't pretty, not by a long shot, but this is a kind of "choose your poison" situation.....

Reply to Ninjahedge

Hmmm, what do you think of me? Why would I be drinking beer alone? Drinking is always sociable for me.

I see you get thorough a good few bottles of bourbon and I don't hear you mention any friends. Is there something you need to tell us? Is Knig your AA sponsor?

On a serious note, I smoke later in the day. If I wake up and want a cig I won't have one for two days. If I get up and fancy one later in the day then I'll have one. I just don't like the idea of not having the choice.

Only time I come unstuck with that policy was when the world cup was in Japan and I had to get up and out to the battle cruiser for 07:00.

Sadly TS, that is the case for me sometimes. Wife and her friends are all typical asian blushers that can't drink more than a spoonful before becoming radishes, so that usually leaves me at home watching the tube or playing games while having a few fingers of some good stuff (or a mug of some choice brew).

I prefer going out, but sometimes that is difficult on the weekends when your drinking buds live across the water (Queens, The Bronx). It is usually easier to meet on a friday and get something.

So, whatever. :(

I have a month to quit because I’ve set that as a goal, and I’ve been given an ultimatum by my health freak ex-smoker boyfriend. He will not live with a smoker. I can’t blame him. Also - I’m tired of all the unpleasant things associated with smoking, not to mention being a social pariah.

I will miss having a cig with my morning coffee, lighting up while drinking a Sammy with my girlfriends at a bar, and sneaking one in with my outcast co-workers. I will miss looking cool, and getting my essential vitamins/nutrients. Naphthalenes, Cadmium, and Arsenic are among my favorites! Blah, blah, blah.

@ RobD – yeah, fkrs do get rich of selling people BS crap like “you can quit in five days with my fantastic audio hypnosis!”

@ Llamaman suit whatever – you are among the lucky chosen few. Live long and prosper. :kryfuck:

DirtyB… more s3x ?? What if I’m already a nympho?
NH…. YES! I’m gonna whine - and b*tch. Be a b*tch…worse than Selma [/Simpsons]

You're going down. You just don't know it yet. An asteroid is going to land on your house - smash
your kilted arse to bits. Smokers will have nothing to do with it.

I think the general consensus for smoking cessation is will power. I sincerely thank those of you who made that very valid point. Thank you Mugz, RobD, and Ninjahedge. JustPlainJeff very amusing. I'm going to give it a good shot. :)

Get a prescription for Chantix. A miracle drug if there was ever one. It blocks the receptors in your brain nicotine goes to. Since they're blocked you only have the psychological desire for a smoke, but no psychical craving. When you do have a cig, it does nothing, so you're like what's the point. For some odd reason insurance doesn't cover it. The first month, usually all you'll need is around $130.

It also blocks weed, so you won't get stoned while on it, so do it right, do it quickly, and do it the first time.

chantix eh? might try that. i enjoy smoking and i am also a complete addict. been smoking since before i was born. my whole family 20+ that i see regularly smokes. for me smoking bans are like air bans for non smokers. sorry i know you have done it your whole life and your body ahs been dependent on it your whole life, but the fish say it's killing them and they dont like the smell. so we have to ban it. becuse they are the majority. my keyboards broken so fcuk off.
