What is the best upgrade for a x800xt. My Card seems to be on the way out
and i have been thinking of getting a X1950PRO but i don't know if it's a good card and if i would see any performance boost from this card. Anyone have any thoughts or other cards. I am looking for something to tide me over till DX10 cards come out/ are more main stream. So nothing over mid range.

AMD 64 3000+
1.5 gig RAM Geil
DFI LANPARTY RDX200-DR
X800xt 256md

Just my opinion, but your X800XT will tide you over till DX10 cards come out. I can play Oblivion with my X800XT at med-hi settings over 40fps all the time. I will wait til ATI DX10 cards are out.

Sorry guys i forgot to put that my x800xt is dieing due to some major overheating problems. It's got nothing to do with the case since i have 2 120mm fans and one 80 fan and good air flow. For some crazy reason it is always sitting at about 70 and as soon as i run a game for longer than 10 mins my computer restarts due to the card overheating. I know this because i checked the logs.
So i think i need to replace it. I tried a old x600xt i have and i get no problems with that but i can't really run games to well.
So everyone thinks a 1950pro is the way to go

Pretty much i cheap, reliable, and even beats the 7900GT on some occasions.
But if you want like i posted in another thread you can get the 7900GTX right now for only 300$ bucks that card will destroy every game you run it at even on higher resolutions and with AA enabled.

It's a good card for sure, but your claim is not true. Try Oblivion at high res and it's the 7900GTX getting destroyed, not Oblivion. ;) http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/oblivion_high-end_performance/page5.asp

Anyway, it's the 8800GTX that can make that kind of claim. :D

hmm... have you tried removing the HSF and putting AS5 on it?

I have an x800xl and i love the hell out of it... perhaps you could save this?

this really really really isnt the best time to buy a new video card if you don't absolutely have to

Well in all honesty, unless you are upgrading the whole system I would wait for a bit. However if your card is giving you problems,I would buy a x1950 to cover your butt for the time being as it plays just about any game flawlessly.Anyways just my suggestion.Goodluck.

Thanks alot everyone of all your help. I Ended up fixing my x800xt, some how dust had clogged the heat pipes on the heat sink. I didn't see it because it was right in the middle of the pipe. Funny how a little dust can cause so many problems.
