RIght now I have a HP 2.0 Celeron computer that is starting to get outdated. I really just want something faster and something I can play some games on. So it will mostly be used for general computing and maybe some gaming. I have been looking recently at the Core 2 Duo processors instead of the AMD. Seems like more performace for the money. I keep debating over the 2.13 and the 2.4 GHz models.
Would the 2.13 be enough or should I get the 2.4 and it wouldnt be as outdated as quickly?

Also I was looking at the ASUS motherboards, which is good for an intel and for an AMD processor?

HOw much memory would you recommend? I was looking at the corsair 6400 2GB?

Also what graphics card would you go with? If a motherbaord ues a nividia or ATI for the north bridge would that brand of graphic card be better to use with that motherboard?

Sorry for all the questions but any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My budget is around $1000 and i have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, just need a tower and the internals. Not sure if I need a real expensive graphic card like the new 8800.

asuming 1000bucks is like £550, here what I Strongly Strongly recomend.

I would put in a Foxconn mother board with P965 - it comes with everything, sata, s775, and a back pannel to match anything and it only £80, i would without a dout get a core 2 duo, the e6300 (which i have) is only 1.86 but when compared to AMD processors often in many test, even games, beats the fx 62, and overclocks super easy. mine overclocked is only 80F and is super cheap at 115, i would get consairs 2 gig value ram, adn spend moderate components, ie PSU, then the rest on a video card.

by the way although the 8800 look awsome, i would buy a cheap card now (like a 7300) until the 8600GT or 8400 is out as with that buget, an extreme graphics card would be cpped by the system.

I hope this helps - i can not stress enough how fast a e6300 actually is

DVD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16827151133
$29.99

Case-Anything you like. Id go with this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119068. Its up to you.

Total:$992.42+shipping.

You can choose any other case you like, and maybe a lower price PSU. That GPU should last you until next year when D10 cards become more affordable.

If you want the e6400 or 6600, then drop down to 1GB of ram and a lower PSU. 1GB should be enough anyway for you.

The S3 mobo is a great mobo for the price. Its got great reviews and a lot of people have it.

Other than that, that combo is pretty good. (I made it in a few minutes)

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a CD ROm I can use and I'm not worried about the OS because I can get that cheap since I'm in school and get huge discounts on Micrsoft Products.
