What to buy? wait for DX10 or not.

My question:

I need to upgrade soon, is it smart to wait for DX10 cards to drop in price/wait for mid range or buy a $200-$300 card now? I usually buy a new card per 1.5year, but seeing that mid range cards are still taking a while I wonder what is best right now.

I was thinking about a X1950XT or a 7950GT.
I have a X800 pro AGP right now, but with a Athlon XP 3000+ my system is getting a bit old

The X1950XT would be a better choice than the 7950GT; unless performance is completely unbearable right now, I'd suggest saving until you can afford a newer card if you really want to wait awhile.

Since you're using an X800pro AGP, can I assume that you're looking for an AGP card?

No I'm gonna build a new PC, so it's gonna be a PCI x-press.

My whole PC is outdated.

Geforce 8800 seems to be a good option when upgrading from AGP to PCI-E. For a PCI-E to PCI-E upgrade it might be better to wait for R600. It might be only slightly better than G80 cards, but the prices might drop.

Just wait... wait wait. Buy summer you will want a DX10 card real bad as the rest of us talk about the new games and performance we get. You will be kicking yourself in the head, just because you got the upgrade bug. Spray that bug, wait, use the money you were going to spend now towards a DX10 card in about 4 months!!! Trust me you will sleep better.

Well one other thought if you don't plan on buying Vista, then don't worry about a DX10 Card. I think DX10 is Vista only?? Someone might correct me on that one if I'm wrong.
