I am doing some research on a problem for my uncle. He likes the
simplicity of the way he used to use his Epson Perfection 3200 Photo
scanner. I'm looking for a way to go back to the initial default
settings for this scanner. I'm not having any luck finding out how.
He likes to go to Start, Programs, Epson, Scan. It used to do a scan
preview and then automatically open up a text editor if he was scanning
text, or a photo editor if he was scanning a photo. Then it would allow
him to print it before saving it. Now something has changed. It doesn't
ask us where we want to save it, it automatically puts it in My
Documents, and I can't find out where to change that. He also likes how
it used to pop up the preview window, allowing him to view it before
saving it. Now, no preview comes up, it just saves the file to his My
Documents folder.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but it "remembers" the settings. He
doesn't want to use the Smart Panel, he just like the simple Scan
function.
As a background to all this:
We just installed the Epson scanner from cd on a new Windows XP machine
with SP2. He also has an Epson Stylus Photo 960 printer. There was an
error popping up occasionally at startup that there was a problem with
the Epson Printer Port. I found a newer version of the printer software
and installed it. I've uninstalled from the Control Panel, Add/Remove
Programs and then deleted all the Epson folders in Program Files and
the C: drive. I think there are some registry entries somewhere that
need to be deleted because it keeps the old settings even after
uninstalling and reinstalling the original software.
