I just take a quick glimpse on a server room from which I could recognize:
- a mobile rack (rack 1) with some severs, digital phone central, and patch panel.
- a fixed "rack" ( let's say rack 2) full with patch panel and jumpers
between, on one side of the room.
For this patchs panels I should do a map in which to describe the connection between different patch panel ports?
For example from patch panel 1_port 2 a jumper is going to patch panel 7_port 3 but from this I can't understand where the connection is going
- Server sits in a rack with network cable going out of server's network card to a port at base of rack.
- You note down the above port number and which frame (patch panel) it is going to (this information should be labelled by the ports on the server rack)
- Go to the patch panel on the wall and find the port from the above step
- Follow the cable in the above port to which port it connects in a switch
- Your networking guys then configure the switch port to a particular VLAN so that your server will be seen on a specific network subnet.
