1.3ghz Celeron Processor
iWill KK266 (I believe that's the model number) mobo
256mb pc133 ram
Visiontek Geforce 2 32mb graphics card
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card
WD 160gig 7200rpm HD
So as you can see my computer is VERY outdated. Last time I upgraded the computer was to play Counter-Strike, not CS:Source, but just regular Cstrike.
Budget will be $1000-$1500 for a new desktop. I know I'll need basically new everything, processor, mobo, ram, graphics, etc. Possibly maybe keep my sound card unless I really need to upgrade that too? Same with harddrive, even though at this moment, the hd is the reason why I am upgrading my desktop. (Bad sector I think and I cannot even load my O/S, so computer is not running)
What would you guys suggest?
If I could I would want the top of the line stuff
This is what I'm thinking
Asus P5B Delux -~$200
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, I don't know which one - ~$250-$300
Corsair XMS2 2gb DDR2 ram - ~$300
BFG Tech Geforce 7950GT 512mb PCI express graphics card - ~$300
That's ~$1100 giving me ~$400 for a case and a nice monitor and keyboard/mouse. For sound card, I already have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2, so I don't think I need to upgrade it(or do I?) I might also need to buy a new HD if my old one is messed up.
If you've been chugging along with that graphics card for so long, a 7950 is probably a waste. 7600 will save you cash (only ~$125 for 7600) and is still very good - and after all, neither card is DX10. You can also probably drop down in RAM speed unless you're overclocking, but I suppose if you want it then get it...
Might as well buy another hard drive. If the current one can still be coaxed to work, it can be a second drive, and it will save you frustration if the drive should decide to go a few weeks after building the new computer.
I would guess if the sound card is as dated as, say, the graphics card, a new one would be nice. But I don't know too much about them (except xi-fi is nice) so I won't venture recommendations there.
this is before shipping from newegg with about $100 worth of mail in rebates. should atleast give you some ideas. goodluck

What I'm trying to get is a gaming system. Like I said, the last time I upgraded my computer was to play original Cstrike and at that time, all of this was top of the line stuff. I haven't moved on since then to other games basically because as you said, my graphics card/computer cannot handle the demand that these games are asking for, this is the reason why I'm upgrading.
Usage is for gaming, graphics design, school word processing, and music.
Budget is going to try to be around $1500-$1700 max. I want to get the best bang for the buck stuff.
