what a waste of money, buying inferior product when better ones are cheaper, ie core 2 duo should have been used, although rest of spec is sound.

you AMD fanboys need to get over your bias and relalise the intel are currently better

well that's not really the case here.

I've always used AMD/ASUS/Nvidia products. I like to use NFORCE chipset with the NvIDia graphics.

also why spend 180+ when i can spend 90$ and see the same results?

cheapest Core 2 Duo on newegg = 182$ retail, i paid 90$ retail.. double the money and i sure as hell aren't gonna see double the performance in loading aim lol.

You can say all you want.. but AIM or Firefox will not load any fast in real time then i can notice in the naked eye.

the choice of a systems components isn't based on whether you like AMD or INTEL, it's based on Price/Performance ratio, but it's also mainly based on what you do with your PC.

I Post on THG, Browse Myspace, check espn for scores occasionally, play some mp3s on winamp and run AIM.. for another 100$ it's a waste.

I don't encode video, i don't use Photoshop, i don't even run OFFICE for that fact.

so with that said.. that is the reason i didn't choose the coreDUO.

with that said i could of paid for an X2 Cpu based system if i was actually trying to compete with a coreDuo

ROb.

thanks man.

Yea im trying to find some overclocking tips on this system if it pays to even do anything.

A8N sli Deluxe and 3700+... any clue how high i might be able to easily push this without thinking twice about it?

find me some benchmarks that show double the price CPU of what i paid open AIM and Firefox so much quicker that it's worth double.

i can't find any. 90$ 180$ = 1/2.

i don't need to find any benchmarks, he's the one insisting on spending double the money and im gonna see better results in web browsing and aim chatting.

why do you keep saying a 3rd the cost? i paid 90$ for my cpu cheapest core duo on newegg is 180+$ that's DOUBLE what i pad.

in what i do, i won't notice any difference that will make the price/performance worth it.

^^

I did the same type of upgrade..

Why I didn't go duo? Waste of my time and money... and no i'm not a fanboy.

Let me show why i made my choice..

I had 1gb of mushkin lvl 2 pc3500 already.
I received a 3700+ for free out of trickery.
And had already bought a 7900GT pretty much when all this was going down.

Then.. there was a sale on my current motherboard for 89 dollars... for one day. So.. i'll sum it all up.

I spent 89 dollars to go from a pentium 4 northwood 2.8ghz system to a 3700+.

I saved about 60 dollars on a board at that time.. 210ish on the CPU at that time.. probably a few hundred dollars for memory.., and like you .. in the applications i use and will be using for a year or two.. i will see no difference in performance.

Thats going dual core with either AMD or INTEL.. I play counter strike source perfectly as well as battlefield 2.. and of course WoW still works flawlessly.

So when.. i do decide to upgrade.. all of the little kiddies who opted to spend 600 on a new CPU/MOBO/Memory combo.. before Vista comes out.. before any game worth upgrading for came out.. will be flaming me for upgrading to a system that most likely destroys their core 2 duo. The only difference is.. i would have upgraded when it was more beneficial to me rather than them.

Looking at the CPU charts.. i'll probably be upgrading when 4x4 is completely sound and stable and applications are finally utilizing dual core. And probably months after Vista finally goes "stable." All of which CPU manufacturer will be decided on that day.. not now. If somehow AMD manages to make a more successful 4x4 core.. than so be it.. that will be the one i purchase..
however.. i think we all see that the road map is looking to favor the intel side of things for the next year and a half to come.. at least.
