Ok I bought this add-on firewire card from Newegg..I popped it into my PCI slot and WinXP doesn't detect it, well I turned my comp off and tried another slot. This time the comp didn't POST so I tried the next one up and it booted normally, but like the first time WinXP doesn't detect it.

So right now I'm wondering is it defective or not.. the card says its PCI 2.2 Specs... 33Mhz 3.3V

Does the vers between 2.1 and 2.2 @ 33mhz and 3.3V matter or would the card actually be defective? I'm about to RMA this back pretty soon and I need some suggestions.

thnx =]

Oh I tried this on my other comps and it did the same thing.

Well I haven't tried that, but the card doesn't show up in Device Manager. =/

Looks to me the card is DOA.
I use a LaCie Firewire 800 PCI card with 3 800 ports.
Costs very little and has awsome performance in combination with a LaCie BigDisk Extreme 500GB disk.

Try using the Add/Remove Hardware program in the Control Panel to specifically tell the OS to look for that card.

If it doesn't work then the card could be defective. The only way to make sure is to install it in another PC to see if it can be detected.

Send it back. A Firewire card is totally plug & Play under XP and should be recognized immediately without even using a driver disc.
