So I just got done with my system and had time to play some BF2142 and run 3DMark06. The system is smoking fast. BF2142 would get about 80FPS at 1920x1200 with everything maxed out. Game wouldn't let me go higher than 4xAA for some reason but ill figure that out soon enough and bump it to 8x at least. Everything is totally stock, the memory was at 800MHz with 5-5-5-18 timings. Strangely enough I lost 60 points after changing memory timings to 4-4-4-12, can anyone comment on this?

Ok I though I put my system in my sig but it didn't show up so here it is:

Intel C2D E6700 w/ Zalman 9700
eVGA 680i SLI
eVGA 8800GTX
2GB Corsair PC-6400 CAS4
150GB RaptorX
320GB Caviar
Plextor SATA DVD Burner
Antec 900 Gamer Case
Coolmax 700W CPU
Dell 24" Widescreen Monitor
Klipsch Promedia 5.1 500W Speakers

Overclock! Overclock!

About the 60 points, did you only run a single test? I can run 3dMark06 and my scores vary by 100ish points and tight timings don't affect 3dmark scores as much as increased memory frequency seem to. I don't know if that is the case for every setup, but personally that is what I have seen in my test runs.

With a score over 10k, 60 points is well within the margin of error on the test.

Sweet results!

Here is mine.

E6400@3.4ghz
DDR2 967mhz 4 4 4 5
8800GTX@628core and 1020mem
Soundblaster Audigy 4

Battlefield 2142 running at 1280X1024 with 16xaf and 16xAAQ with super sampeling and high quality in driver settings.

I use vsync and my FPS never drops below my monitors refresh rate of 75Hz

Nice. How do you overclock the 8800GTX, is it in the Nvidia software that came with it? I haven't looked for it yet.

What about temps on the NB etc. POST!
November 16, 2006 5:04:44 PM

RobsX2 - I didnt even notice it was you posting. When did you get a new rig??? Awesome man. 12K on 3DMark06 is double what I have. Thats fantastic.

Please post your FULL component specs, as well as voltages for CPU/MCH etc. Also, if you can post temps (using TAT of course), for the CPU that would be awesome. Any idea on the temps on the NB/SB etc.

Congrats man, nice system!

You're a machine! I'm gonna PM you tonight to get a full breakdown of your specs, and see if I cant sell my machine at cost. I'd like to get the P5B and E6400 combo. Maybe even make $100 extra and try put it towards the v-card, which seems to carry the most of the 3DMark performance anyway.

What do you think about the Scythe vs the Tuniq tower? I'm leaning towards the Tuniq. Anyway, I'll PM you later.

Cheers.

Robs, last thing. What case are you using? Also, that RAM sounds a little too good to be true. Have you measure the temps on the RAM. Arent you worried with those high volts that they might blow out? Chat tonight.

Yeah, I saw that Crucial 10th anniversity RAM, expensive, but damn nice. I'd go out and buy all the parts if I could, but Imma still ponder R600 vs. G80 and RD600 vs. 680i...

Decisions decisions...

When do you expect the RD600 to come to market? They may be a little better in performance, but then the Nvidia cards will be a lot cheaper as they made it 1st to market. Maybe get a new 8800 now for $400 (wait patiently until the R600 is released), and get another one in a year for $200? Who knows. Thanks for the input.

DFI is the only mobo manufacturer expected to bring out the R600 in Nov/Dec. I just found this article from Anandtech. Not good news Doughbuy.

DFI May Quit Desktop Mainboards Business – Media Report.
DFI Mulls Abandoning Desktop Mainboard Biz

FOLLOW UP: DFI Denies Abandoning Enthusiast Mainboard Business.

Diamond Flower Information, a well-known second-tier mainboard maker, may stop producing mainboards for desktops in order to concentrate on industrial solutions. While the information is not confirmed, this would fit into typical strategy of smaller motherboard manufacturers to withdraw from the mainstream market.

According to Spanish-language ChileHardware web-site, DFI will withdraw from the market of enthusiast and desktop-class mainboards due to flat sales or market share increases.

DFI became well known among enthusiasts several year ago with the release of the LanParty mainboard series, which has become very popular among overclockers since then. However, the primary business of DFI are mainboards for industrial computing, a more predictable market with stable sales that does not require massive investments into research and development.

Taiwan-based DFI said it was the world’s No. 7 largest mainboard manufacturer back in 2001 and has branches in the U.S., Japan, Europe and China.

Mainboard market has been experiencing serious reshuffling in the recent years, as larger players have been gaining market share rather quickly. As a result, consolidations in the mainboard and computer components markets have been going for several years now just like re-focusing of several compaines. During the last 12 to 18 months Walton acquired a stake in Chaintech, Abit was bought by USI, Leadtek Research teamed up with Foxconn, Gigabyte formed joint-venture with Asus and several other deals were conducted.

Officials for DFI did not comment on the news-story.

$229, I thought it cost quite a bit more than that, where did you buy it from?

RD600... should be out by december, R600 sometime next yearly, prolly late January...

But I really don't want to wait anymore... oh well... patience...

Save some money, while at the same time getting the same OC'ed speeds (check the price performance charts). Use that money to put it into a better v-card etc. I've been researching all this over and over again, and the 680i may not be the worst option, especially for future upgrades. If I pop in a 7900GTX (checked THG VGA charts again), it looks like it will perform real well. I need to go home tonight and play with the numbers, and post the cost/benefit. But I'll PM you.

Chat later mate!

With just a touch of airflow, I've seen people running OCZ and Crucial memory at 2.8v 24/7. I've had mine at 2.5 when messing with max overclock and it was barely warm to the touch while running Memtest86.
November 16, 2006 6:49:24 PM

Not sure about $229 but its $239 at Newegg.

Thats (edit) thats with $10 off instant. I think a really good price and one of the very few Ram sets with that speed and CAS 3 on it.

Good deal imo. Its on my wishlist as well, just waiting on a couple more 680i reviews but almost out of patience.

How does one measure the temps of your RAM accurately, to know if you're pushing the limit etc. Anyway to monitor through software. I dont want to go out and buy a diode etc. They should put monitors on the northbridge, southbridge, RAM, CPU, GPU, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS!

Seriously, any ideas?
November 16, 2006 7:22:52 PM

Yeah, I'm also really impressed with the OCZ Speical Ops Urban Elite memory, but its quite pricey. The G. Skill also has some impressive results at the price it offers, anandtech seems to have nice memory review if any of ya'll are interested.

I picked up my 2 gig of Crucial ddr2 6400 cas4 for 199. When they did the 100 doallar rebate promotion =)
November 17, 2006 12:56:07 PM

That Crucial 10th Anniversary eddition that RobsX2 had sounded awesome. He has OC'ed those babies to the max.
November 17, 2006 6:50:46 PM

I am purchasing a setup very similar to yours.

I was wondering if you had any issues building it. My main concern being the 8800 GTX in the Antec 900. Any issues? Any problems?

Thanks! :)
November 17, 2006 8:54:18 PM

hi,did you have any problems putting the Zalman 9700 on this board, just wondering before i purchase

Well to sum it up the colors are more vibrant and sharper with the GTX, 16XAA kicks total ass when it comes only at the cost of 4XAA and the HQ 16AF is incredible.

Id have to say its a good bit better but unfortunately screen shot comparisons don't show you the true differences.

I am about to post pics of OB running on my new 8800GTX. I have it at 1280X1024 with 8aa-16aa and 16af+hdr and the driver settings on high quality.

How do you get Oblivion to run HDR with AA?
November 21, 2006 6:17:12 AM

With my 1900xt I 'force it' using the gpu.Not letting the app decide, and having hdr on in the game and aa off in the game, not sure with the nvidias.

Really? It still doesn't let me select both of them in the game. Will it work if I select the AA in my Nvidia software and then select HDR in the game?
