Will also need to upgrade my power source, currently at 250W (should I go over 430W? May upgrade to DX10 later next year); basically, want to play CDuty2, HLife, etc. And, will I need a cooler with the X850Pro if I get it? Thanks!

I have and 850 Pro and had a 7800 GS the latter had to be Rma twice. The 850 pro and 850 xt for good cards but I might shop around for a better price. Sone online sites have them for a bit less.

Ron

For the money, it's an awesome card and you can find it here for $139.99: ATI 100-435712 Radeon X850PRO 256MB.

I'd highly recommend getting a better psu as it requires at least a 350 watt psu.

Also, the stock cooler will work fine as long as you don't want to OC the hell out of it.

I totally agree. $175 is higher than you need to go for an X850Pro. In fact, for a little while Newegg had a X850XT for the same price as the X850Pro for which you provided a link.

Have you thought about the x1950 Pro's?? They are also AGP now and support HDR and shader model 3.0.

I went from an x800xl to an x1950xt and the difference is amazing. I didn't know what I was missing. :o

Here's a link to the ATI site that shows a comparison: http://www.atitech.ca/products/Rad [...] 50pro.html

Nvidia or ATI, I'd recommend upgrading to something that supports HDR and shader model 3.0 if it fits in your budget.

Due to limited options for an AGP bus, I decided to get the x850Pro for $139.99 at Newegg; and, bought an Antec HE 550W PU at Circuit City for $69.99 (after $80 in rebates); about as much as I wanted to spend for a quick upgrade. This will let me get caught up on the games I haven't been able to play over the past 3-years or so and, by the time I'm done, will be ready to purchase a new unit with a DX10 that, by then, should be both available and affordable.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.
