I'm going to buy myself a new pc beginning of 2007 with (hopefully) a 30" lcd display.
What graphics card does the best job for the massive screen resolution of 2550x1600 px : the latest G8800 GTX of the quadro FX 4500 ?

Thanks

Gaming?

Actually I need it for both worlds : gaming and workstation stuff : DTP, rendering movies (adobe premiere pro), designing with illustrator, ...

If you are going to use it for gaming and workstation things go with the 8800GTX

I've heard that the nvidia 8800 doesn't do a full HD (1080p) on a 30" display like the 3007WFP Dell, when the movie is a HDCP content protected movie. Is this thrue ?

Will the new ATI R600 do a full 1080p together with HDCP ? Remember : it will be on a 30" display with res of 2550x1600px.

Thanks

Assuming you mean "2560x1600", yes, both the 8800GTX and R600 will output this resolution. They all have dual-link DVI ports.

As for 1080p, no, neither will drive it as 1080p - it will have to be upscaled to fit on the display - whether by the monitor or the card. I suppose you could force it to display on a 1:1 pixel map, but you'd be wasting approximately a third of the screen on black space.

I would imagine that 1080p video would look *amazing* on the 3007 monitor - it won't be any worse than a true 1080p screen (and will probably be significantly better) - but it won't be displaying in native 1080p. In exactly the same way as a 1080p screen won't display native 720p - it upscales.

As far as I am aware the 8800GTX has full support for HDCP.

ya, 8800gtx wont support it on both link ports.. only one dvi link supports hdcp so it ll b hard for a 30" monitor to work out with those hdcp movies.. and also yes for ATI R600, That supports full hdcp.:D
