ati doesnt make this card anymore, better of buying a x1950xt 256 or a x1950xtx 512. x1950xt 256mb has a better bang for the buck. The x1900xt's 512mb have dried up everywhere.

No way, X1900XT 512MB is better because of the memory.
X1950XTX? hmm, i didnt think abt that.. it has 512MB right?
Where can i find it?? :p

I got one. It was a Gigabyte X1900XT 512MB. Few days after I got it from new egg, I couldnt find it anywhere. Even at Gigabytes site it's not listed. Odd.

512 mb of video ram doesnt always mean the card is good. You dont need 512mb vram unless your are going to play games above 1600 by 1200.

Then why does Doom 3 tell me i need 500MB to run Ultra-High?
And why does G.R.A.W. not even show me the option for "Ultra-High, without 512MB??
The card only saves the last single frame onto the memory - as is its called the framebuffer.. so it dosent really matter what resoltion i run, but i only have a 17" monitor (im starting to think thats bad).

There are a few up on Newegg as the CF version, but I'm not sure that's going to help since I think you were not from the US. The XTX's are much more available as mentioned above.

Go for an XTX instead if you need a 512MB card; the X1900XT is no longer made in 512MB versions. (existing 512MB cards are still out there being sold, though)

However, in most cases, a 256MB card will suffice; no game's stock settings, as far as I've seen (including Doom3 and GR:AW) actually use enough VRAM more than 256MB to make any performance impact for having a 512MB card. However, a heavily modded version of Oblivion (as awesome as it looks, it also has many ugly flaws that need fixing) will most certainly eat up a lot of VRAM, well more than a 256MB video card can provide.

Resolution actually makes little difference here; that primarily increases the BANDWIDTH usage, not the actual memory usage; textures are the chief use of VRAM, so increasing texture settings, using anisotropic filtering, and the like, can increase VRAM usage dramatically.

Because you are too quick to believe marketing tripe, Track. You always have been.

The ability to run the 'ultra' setting in the doom3 engine is hardly a reason to trumpet that 256mb is obsolete... especially when the setting below is all but indistinguishable during gameplay.

256mb will be usable and provide good service for a long time to come.

Where can i find it?? :pDon't waste your money on the X1950XTX as it's within the price range of the 8800GTS. 512MB doesn't matter for most titles, and I know for a fact Doom3 is fine on a 256MB videocard. I run Doom3 on Ultra at 1680x1050 with 4xAA 16xAF and vert sync with a constant 60 FPS throughout nearly all of the game.

Can't anyone find an X1900XT 512MB for 300$ or less??
If i wanted to pay 600$ for a graphics card, i would get an 8800 GTX.. except i can't because i have a Pentium 4 @3.6Ghz.
LOL! So wrong it isn't even funny. You're a fool to pay extra for a discontinued card just to gain 5FPS for a setting that is indistinguishable from high to the naked eye.

I honestly think Track whines too much. If he is not happy with his overall system, upgrade? Get a nice C2D and motherboard for roughly the same price of a x1950xt. Then save cash down the road and something cheaper than the x1950xt, so you dont blow it all on a fancy DX9 card when DX10 is out.

BF2 comsumes 300+ of video memory (according to Riva) on my 7900GTO 512, thats at 1280x1024 with everything on high. So it'll save some swapping.

Exactly, and thats NOW. What heppens when Vista arrives, and we want to play games like Halo 2 and Crysis..?

It shows in these results that a 512 card DOES NOT increase performance that much. I mean 6-12 fps ?!?!?! can you really tell the difference between 50 or 60 fps, maybe, but after 5 minutes of playing video games you wont realize what is going on with the fps to tell.

Go with the x1950xt, it will probably be as good as a 512 x1900xt.
