Cant quite get it to work.

Ive read through the over clocking guide for the Core 2 Duo's, Ive disabled what I have found in bios, that it tells me to disable and yet, whenever I try any kind of pushing, the system doesnt get past the Video card RAM check.

I am hoping someone with a similar config to mine can give me some pointers, as what I have tried to understand in Wusy's guide is really beginning to give me a head ache.

System Specs are as follows.

Core 2 Duo 6300 with Stock Cooler
Gigabyte 965P-DS3
2048mb Corsair TwinX DDR 800 5-5-5-12
LeadTek 7950GT 512Mb
Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W PSU

I try following the guide, and the best I get to is getting the system to boot to the Video Card memory test, at which point it will just restart not liking any settings. It wont post even with a mild overclock.

Try this :

Update to latest bios.
In "cpu config." tab set everything to disable, also disable any speed fan control.
Then set manually your ram to 2.1Vdimm , 5-5-5-15
Vcore 1.4V, V FSB 1.3 , V NB 1.45 , V SB 1.6 , V ICH - auto (where is possible , where not - leave it to auto)

Set your FSB to 370 and assure that Ram is in 1:1 ratio(should be 740) . Save and reboot

If works , up your fsb my 10mhz increments , keeping the 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio till u'r sistem doesnt post again. Up the Vcore with 0.025 an try again ... repeat the process until u find ur max FSB WITHOUT exceeding 1.5Vcore. Also keep an eye on your temps! your max full load temp should be <=70C (CoreTemp or TAT). Good luck

I did update my bios, Im running the F7 bios for the DS3, the best I have seen this system get to, is just after the memory check on the video card, it flashes up the Post screen and then just restarts. Perhaps Im just unlucky and cant push this 6300 at all :S

Anyone using a DS3 and able to tell me the exact numbers they are using might help me as a guide.

Can you, and if so, did you lock your PCIe bus speed? just a thought. You may be overclocking your PCIe at the same time your overclocking the FSB.

Ive tried locking the PCIe to 100, and leaving it on Auto as it says in Wusy's guide. Ive tried various combinations of voltages, as what is written in Wusy's guide, doesnt translate directly for the DS3, I get a little lost.

Anyway... Ive gotten it past the VGA Memory check a couple of times, but it just flashes up the post screen then either the machine turns off and turns back on again, or it just restarts, It has never gone past that.

Im only setting the FSB to 333 to start with, it wont even take that. And... in the Bios I cant find the setting to set PCI to 33 Mhz, if someone can tell me the probable name, or what it is labelled in the Gigabyte Bios settings, that would help tremendously.

Now heres something odd.... I decided what the hell... see if Gigabyte have some kind of knowledge in their collective brains, so, I installed Easy tune just to see how it would go.

And whaddya know, I can hit 333mhz FSB fine with Easy tune... so... it must be something to do with the settings I am trying in Bios, or, its the locking down the PCI bus to 33mhz, which I still am unable to find the setting for.

EDIT: Easy tune was a big bust, it did overclock, but as the settings are nowhere near complete it was horrid. I did however download SpeedFan just to look at things running stock... Vcore 1 seems to be fine at 1.34, but Vcore 2 is reporting in at 1.89, Im guessing this isnt normal.

I just finished putting together a similar rig (DS3 and E6400). I haven't tried any overclocking yet. But Speedfan reports some weird things for me as well. Similar Vcore 1 and 2 (1.17 and 1.92) and it also says my +12V is 0.00 and my -12V is -16.97, which just can't be right.

I'm also trying to figure out if the problem is my setup, or Speedfan.

Well no matter what I try, adjusting the voltages, setting PCIe to 100 or leaving it on Auto, having the ram timings at 5-5-5-12 or 5-5-5-15. Nothing I am doing will get this 6300 with DS3 to boot overclocked, not even putting the FSB 1Mhz faster, it still wont boot. I guess I'm going to have to deal with the fact that, obviously, I was unlucky and got a chip that cant budge.

I have read on other sites, that people have had issues with using USB Devices and getting overclocks to hold on the DS3 and DS4, anyone else experienced this problem?

you said that you were able to OC with easytune so I dont think its your board but probably something rather obvious that your missing. Just a thought :D

Thats what Im thinking... and yet... I have no idea -,-

EDIT: As I have said, I dont actually know what the setting to force PCI to 33mhz is called in the DS3 bios, as I cant see it otherwise, that may be the problem.
