I have a wireless keyboard.
Is there a way to assign buttons on my keyboard as an example I have a
calculator button and would like to use a calculator other than the one that
Windows supplies.

Thank you,

Which keyboard???
Did the wireless keyboard come with a user manual or help file? Does the
manufacturer have a website?

Hi,

That would depend on the driver supplied by the manufacturer. If the custom
keys are mappable, then the place to look is the keyboard applet in the
control panel. Using a standard keyboard driver supplied by WindowsXP will
not support the hotkeys, you need to ensure that you are using the
manufacturer's driver set.

Another choice for Hank, if that doesn't work, is to overlay the
Windows calculator, at
%SystemRoot%\System32\calc.exe with the calculator of his choice.
Of course, that will make the Windows calculator unavailable, so
he may want to first rename it something else, so it's easy to
get back if he wants to.

Hey there, i managed to change calculator hotkey like this:

Open the registry: run > regedit

(be careful in here - it's a messy place :) )

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > explorer > AppKey > 18

name: "ShellExecute" data: "calc.exe"

Change data to "myapp.exe" or whatever (make sure your program is in system32 in the windows folder.

Done...

Since like you said the permissions for system32 folder are so enforced... Just put the full path name for the program you want to open as the data :

"c:\program files\folder\program.exe"

:)
