Ok, now I have seen the Tom's Hardware Best Video Cards for the money, but I want to ask you all. Currently I am looking at this:
http://www.newegg.com/product/prod [...] 6814143054

I need some suggestions for anything better that is sub-$100. I would like to go with a 7600GT, but I cant spend that much more money on my first build.

Im using a GIGABYTE GA-M55SLI-S4; http://www.newegg.com/product/prod [...] 6813128321 If that helps.

I will be doing medium gaming and surfing, homework, etc. Noise doesn't bother me.

Thanks.

The sub $100 range is looking lame right now. With the sub $100 X800GTO's dissappearing, an off brand 7600GS is about as good as you will get for under $100. But that card you listed isn't from a big name company and the user reviews are mixed. You may want to look for a different brand. But what you find is the other brands are creeping over $100. SO.....

IMO, it's a shame not to spend another $20 for the much faster( & better brand) 7600GT. They go for $110 after rebate for an evga GT or $113 AR for the BFG GT, or $113 no rebates for the identically clocked evga GTS.

Not to push your budget, it's just you are getting alot more for your money with the 7600GT. If you must stay under $100 and don't mind a rebate to keep you in that price range, Circuit City will have a 7600GT for $89 AR on Black Friday.

Fry's has one for $100 now after $50 rebate: http://shop2.outpost.com/product/5 [...] IN_RSLT_PG

How much of a difference is there between the GS and GT? Will I be able to notice a difference in gaming?

I used pricegrabber to find this: http://www.compuvest.com/Descripti [...] iid=326542

There's a pretty big difference between the GS and the GT. You'd definitly notice a difference.

The 7600GT's have much higher clock speeds... 560MHz core/ 1400MHz mem vs. 400MHz core / 800MHz memory. Huge difference.

Take a look in Farcry. The reference clocked GT is playable at 12x10 4x/8x with 49.1 fps while the 7600GS is not playable averaging 28.1 fps.

Of course in farcry, disable aa and the 7600GS would probably be playable at 12x10. But take a more stressful game like COD2, and at 1024x768 with aa/af off even, the 7600GT is playable but the 7600GS is not. 40.8 fps vs 29.9 fps.

Here is Fear at settings where the 7600GT aveages 49 fps while the reference clocked 7600GS is unplayable at at 29 fps.

Anyway, the huge clock speed difference does make a noticable gaming difference if you find the max playable settings. For just a few bucks more you get 160MHz on the core and 600MHz higher GDDR3 memory; seems money well spent.

Ill be playing games on my CRT until I get a 19 incher. It set to 1024x768. Thats pretty low I think, maybe when I get my lcd, I be at 1280x1024.

What does AA, AF, Trilinear Filtering mean?

Thanks guys.
