ok. so i built my computer, it has had many problems with it, but recently i reformated my harddrive, and every thing runs perfect, except for one thing. I cant install X-fi audio drivers. I tried both the cd, and the newest drivers off the creative website. what happens, is that when it is updating windows drivers, (thats what it says its doing), the computer freezes, like completely. i cant use my mouse, and ctrl+alt+delete doesnt work at all. I dont know what the problem is, everything is running fine except for that. please help!

The x-fi installer is a POS, run it and leave it for a while it should unstick, if that doesnt work try installing in safe mode or downloading the newest drivers from the site.

there my be an irq conflict. Change the sound card to a diffferent Pci slot, disable onboard sound in bios, download latest drivers, and install in safe mode. Also, update yout mobo bios first. Theres been complaints that xfi sound card are not compatible with some motherboards.

well, thanks for all the idea's guys. I dont think im going to switch the pci slot, cause i had the computer up and running before for some time, and the drivers worked and everything. but then my cd key went tits up so it took a while before i could get this thing back up and running (i decided to reformat when i bought windows xp professional). so there you guys have it. i will try going into safe mode and try it. sounds like a sound bet.

alright you guys. here is what happened. I booted into safe mode, and then tried installing the drivers, and they did install. but, then i restarted, and the computer froze while in the win xp boot screen. so i shut down the computer, and then turned it on, and went to last known good configuration. which is where I'm at right now. now i dont have the drivers installed. what do you guys think i should do?
