I've been busy gaming, but I did purchase an Evga 8800GTX on launch day.

The best thing I've ever done. I love this card. I've been playing Dark Messiah and wow, do I recommend that game. Esp if you are into the medieval thing. Rayguns and phasers dont excite me. But getting medieval on someones head with an axe does.

I havent found anything I dont like about the GTX. It fit into my Lanboy but I modded the case anyway due to a very tight fit.
I'm probably going to order the new Antec Ninehundred one of these days, my hardware has always ran 10C higher than it should in this case since I bought it two years ago.

My 3dmark is very disappointing, but its almost exactly what I expected with my CPU. I dont really care since it doesnt affect me much at 1680x1050 with 16xQAA/16xAF/High Quality/Supersampling TransAA in all my games.
Overclocking my CPU to 3ghz only raised it 1K anyway. It looks like I'll be going Core2 in 2007 without a doubt.

Paid $650 with $2 for 2-day shipping from ZipZoomFly.

Other games being used with the G80: Heroes of Might and Magic 5, Oblivion, HL2, Counterstrike Source, Medieval 2 Total War, Civilization 4.

I was very happy with my 7900GTX, and decided that from that experience that I'm never buying anything but the high end anymore (usually I'm a 6800GT/7800GT kinda guy) and havent even had the time to gloat on forums. Which is not like me.

1680x1050 with 16xQAA/16xAF/High Quality/Supersampling TransAA is buttery smooth on this card, even with the FX55.
The image quality is impeccable and I've been trying to get this card to stutter but Ive failed on any game that I'm remotely interested in installing. Its amazing considering the near-beta drivers (which I havent had any problems with).

Highly recommended to anyone with the salary to afford it.
Going to order the Antec 900 and a pair of Sony MDR-V6 headphones.. and really enjoy some gaming until my next upgrade, which is the G81.. and then my Core 2 Quad.. coming soon in 2007 as well.

that must have been better than sex the moment it arrved i'm sure.

hell im not in the mood for flaming so i'll just say good for you and i hope it provides you enjoyment for months to come. i'm not in any way jealous, just pleased that finally you nvidiots have a card you can be kinda proud of.

oh and how is dark messiah. have they solved some of the bugs in it. not that i want to give you ammo but i had problems getting crossfire to work with it in the demo.

Reply to Strangestranger

Yikes.. I wouldnt use "ammo" like that against you my man.. :? No one here takes joy in another mans troubles. You paid good money for that hardware.
I may like NV and their product.. but I'm not here to tear you or your stuff down. I already know most of the ATI/NV problems anyway, esp Xfires (I'm well read on that ;))
I liked the X1900s, their best "feature" being their superior minimum frames to GF7. Even though I might come after people sometimes when I feel NV isnt getting a fair shake.
BTW I was very "proud" of the GF7 series. It took me a while to get used to X1K-style temps on my G80. GF8 being something to be merely proud of, is nearly an understatement IMO. I believe this is our R300.

Dark Messiah rules. I love it. I rarely agree with reviews or word on the street about games, this is one of those that is a lot more fun than reviews might let on. Its unique and in ways, a sleeper hit. Like Sacrifice was, at the turn of the century.
I would recommend picking up the game. If you have any inclination towards medieval games at all, theres definitely no worries.

Hey Rampage you said you stuck to high and said 7800gt is that a good card? I saw one on ebay a while back for $200 Aus and i was wondering if thats a good price thats approximately like 150 Us I THink

Reply to Ghetto_Monk

I had the 7800GT and $150US for that card is a good price. The 7900GT is a little better, but some of the early 7900s had issues with a capacitor that was exposed through overzealous OEM overclocking. Since you cant take advantage of the lifetime warranties, I'd probably go for that 7800GT.

From what I checked into, you arent getting ripped off. I found a few 7800GTs on ebay for $150 buy-it-now. Also, I checked some of the for sale/trade forums online, and $150 is the going price for one of those.
If you want to step up to something faster, the 7950GT is a great value to. Otherwise the 7800GT sounds good to me!

Wow you have alot of knowledge man , My budget is pretty tight so I'll think ill stick with the 7800gt. Will that handle like aoe3 and that Dark Messiah game because that sounds pretty cool. I got 2gb ram and am2 4200+ will that do well lol.

Reply to Ghetto_Monk

Yeah you'll be fine, depending on your resolution. You will be able to run max 1600x1200 with no AA/AF in Dark Messiah, or lower resolutions with AA/AF.

You are going to get the maximum performance out of a 7800GT using your 4200+/2GB rig, so no bottlenecks. You'll be good to go for Vista to, with the 2GB. That was a wise budget-move if you plan on moving to that, as its a horrible memory hog. Your rig will run Vista well.

are you serious?

Don't be sad, Dual X1900s in Crossfire are just as badass as an 8800GTX. Two red cards are just as good as one green/gray one.

Well I think the x1950xtx toxic crossfire is sexier...and the R600 may just stop me spending any money on my GF whatsoever lol

Hey how does MTW2 run on the 8800GTX because thats one of the games i play the most and im interest in getting a GTX(most likelt a GTS because it fits my buget more)

and can you really tell the difference from x16 AA and 4x AA?

I would hope so. If I spent that much on a GPU, my wife would kill me. I'd be couch surfing for sure.

It runs Medieval2 beautifully. Although my old 7900GTX ran it smoothly at my res with no AA/AF.. I now run 16x/16x.
As far as the difference between 4x and 16x.. lots of people will tell you yes of course. But IMO, its only really noticable in slower paced games, such as Heroes of Might and Magic. Depending on how fast you turn the game speed up and how frantically you play MTW2, you would notice unless you do play pretty fast. IMO, for shooters 4x/8x is fine. I dont believe when things are flying by at 100FPS someone can tell the difference between 4x and 16x.
Most of the slower paced games wont kill a GTS/GTX anyway so the GTS will probably be fine at 16/x16x in that game. I had a very hard time choosing between the GTS and GTX myself!
It might be a wise choice to pickup the GTS, and then wait for a smaller card like the G81 GTX will be.
