From the main spybot screen, choose "recovery". It should guide you through
the process.
By the way, it is unususal for Spybot to impact windows itself. Did
anything else happen at about the same time? Or, was the PC acting funny,
and you hoped that running Spybot would fix it? That is, maybe the problem
is something else? Have you run a virus scan and do you regularly update
the virus defintions (at least once a week)? Do you have a firewall
installed, at least the XP default firewall, or better yet, somehting like
Zone Alarm (free), or Norton (not free) or McAfee (not free).
Usually Spybot impacts some nominally "free" program that is actually
sending data about you or that is causing popups. The price for some "free"
programs is to tolerate this, and if you want, Spybot can be trained to
ignor one or more of what it defines as potential problems. Once you get
the PC unning normally again, read the Spybot help for more info.
If the Spybot recovery fails, you could try running CHKDSK C: /R (and reboot
when requesed). Sometimes disk file system errors can cause a PC to act
oddly. If you can not open a command prompt to run CHKDSK, try running it
from the recovery concole. See links to recovery console:

If that fails, you could try a "repair" installation of XP. For that you
will need a retail XP CD, not an OEM CD or a recovery CD. If the PC is a
major brand (e.g., Dell, Gateway) contact them for advice. Links about
