I was having a go at overclocking and managed to get my cpu up to 3.6 but was running very unstable. But at the same time in my lack of knowledge I set the pci-e speed up to 110. My computer would run but when i ran 3dmark it would hang after 2 or 3 of the tests. The Cpu temp didnt get any higher than 45c and the mobo never higher than 48c.
Ok so after a big crash that i could not recover from, I reset the bois to default. Now when i get into windows after a few minutes I get this yellow chessbored like pattern either across the whole screen or just parts of it. After a few momnets of that the screen just goes blank but the pc does not reset its as if the monitor has just lost the signal.
So a foolish mistake on my part guess have to learn the hard way. But is it just the x1650 that I have damaged or could it even be the mobo thats controlling it thats been knackered.
I'm going to try and get a replacement pci-e card to see but i cant get to town for a couple of days so I won't know untill then. But if there is any one who has seen this sort of thing before could you please drop me a reply to tell me how stupid I am and tell me which of the two is most likley in need of replacement.
I recently dammaged my old Radeon 9700 Pro just by trying to remove the heatsink of it (it got rock-hard after the years). The issue I experienced is similar to what you seem to have, but it was on the entire screen. Here, have a look:
Yes it was just the card, the motherboard was ok. Unless you are experiencing some unstable behavior from the rest of the system, I don't think the motherborad is fried.
Cool sounds reassuring every thing in the bios is at default settings and the system stays stable untill i get that chessbord pattern on the screen. It was only gonna carry me over untill the DX10 ATI cards become available. But i certainly learned my lesson about getting greedy over overclocking power. If all is well when i get a replacement card i might just keep it at 3ghz and touvh nothing else!!!!!!
